They're doing a Setting Update for the story.

Thoughts? I have no idea how to feel about this. Updating the book wouldn't be a bad idea actually, since there could actually be applicability in the satire. But, it looks like that , yet again, only the Lilliputians are going to get any screen time.

They're not gonna get to the floating thinkers or the talking horses? Not worth it!

Man. The Ted Danson adaptation will forever be the only full one, won't it?

I guess the movie won't have Gulliver's unique way of putting out fires.

But it MUST! This is BLACK JACK! Jhontathan Swift's Toilet Humour is PERFECT for him!

And where are the GIANTS? I want to see the giantesses playing with Black and making him ride their giant nipples (yes, that was in the novel). (Spelunke is right out or the movie would be rated X, though).

And I want my Yahooos!! That's a lawsuit waiting to happen if there ever was one!

^Honestly, I don't get why they never keep any of the other areas. The Brobdingnags especially would be a goldmine for some gross out humor. Like the fact that every flaw and mole on the women were greatly amplified to disgusting lengths.

You could do so much satire with the Laputans. Especially nowadays.

Castle In The Sky is about the only work that seemed to remember that Laputa exists  *

I find it hard to believe that the Houyhnhnms are forgotten a lot. That whole last section, to me, is a perfect piece to be applied as modern day satire.

It must be because no one can remember how to spell or pronounce that! In the mini-series I thought they were called "Whinnies".

^That's how it's supposed to be pronounced canonically, I believed. Said like the sound of whinnying(sp?) horse.

They're probably saving the rest for any potential sequels.

Savings things for a sequel is a terrible idea. Just get in as much cool stuff as you can the first time around, and maybe you'll actually have a chance of getting a sequel.

Registering as another person who wants an adaptation that includes Laputa and the horse-people I can't spell.

I remember it being really good, if you don't mind the change where Gulliver made all four voyages without returning to England, so they tossed him in an insane asylum when he came back as a misanthrope who talks to horses.

Yes, they added a Framing Device where he was at a hearing to determine his sanity and he described his travels. It also added more to his family life. It makes the overall tone a bit more positive and puts some more focus on the character of the man himself. On the whole, I liked it.

I remember that one, was it not like 4 hours long and had some subplot about his wife remarrying the guy who ran the asylum? That was really good. Ohh and wasn't that the one that got reused on some kids version of it(maybe produced by crayola, they also did 2000 leagues under the see and the Trojan war. What was that called I remember watching those as a kid, wow I got off topic).

Ehh looks okay, but I am getting sick of the little people being such a big deal in all the Gulliver's Travels movies, as well as EVERY MOVIE BEING IN (loud booming voice) 3-D!

You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.

Thanks to Muppet Vision 3D, my dad always repeats "IN THREE-DEE!" back in Kermit the Frog's voice.

Hey, as long as I have the option to see it for less money in 2D, I'm good. It bugs me though that one of the reasons this got pushed back was so they could put it 3D. That just feels so so like they're doing last minute trend cashing in.

Oh man, I remember the Ted Danson miniseries. Don't remember how good it was, because I was too young to have any taste at the time.

Regarding the Ted Danson miniseries. The actual voyages were okay, but I hated the framing device. Stretched over four hours it just gets to be too much. Reiteration and hints of Idiot Plot left and right.

It was better then that Oddyssey miniseries.

The trailer really leaves me unimpressed. It's like they're compressing the main drawing point for the film into the last 30 seconds. But I'll have to see another trailer to give my full opinion.

I prefer the Odyssey miniseries greatly. No stupid framing device, just two parallel plotlines in realtime. That was a key problem with the Gulliver's Travels idea; we know he'll live and get back home, so where's the drama?
