That's because it was done by admin fiat, and skipped the normal process. No one complained at the time because it seemed like a perfectly reasonable change, but it turns out cutting off half the trope out of the name was a bad idea.
For the record, if you edit your post, nobody gets a new post notification, so people can miss new discussion.
Going off what you linked, the individual trope discussion pages have historically been very easy for people to entirely forget about, so I'm not surprised that one didn't go anywhere. Though now that we can @ people in discussions, maybe that will change. Anyway, maybe if someone had made a Trope Talk thread at the time, the discussion would have had an effect.
I don’t want to clog up threads with my posts, but you may be right. And yes, something probably could have been done about this earlier, but here we are now.

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!Don't worry about "clogging". It's a forum thread, not a series of tubes.
While I don't super like any of the suggested titles like Shameful To One Beautiful To Another, at least they describe the contrast. Though I do wonder in that specific case if people might miss that the person who has the trait is supposed to be the one finding it shameful... Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.
There’s also "Shameful to Self, Beautiful to Another" suggested upthread.
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!"Shameful to Oneself, Beautiful to Another" was also suggested.
How about Shameful Thing Found Beautiful to add a touch more brevity?
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes. Is it time to call the results and decide on next steps?
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaCalling in favor of renaming. Get a list of names ready.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Okay, from upthread…
- Freaky Is Shameful And Attractive
- Freaky Is Shameful
- Ones Freaky Anothers Beauty
- Shamed For Beautiful Fantastic Trait
- Shameful To One Beautiful To Another
- Shameful To Self Beautiful To Another
- Shameful To Oneself Beautiful To Another
- Shameful Thing Found Beautiful
(Not sure if reverting to the original name is an option or not, just asking.)
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!I like Ones Freaky Anothers Beauty and Shameful Thing Found Beautiful because they are only 4 words long while containing both halves of the trope and they rhyme.
Crowner hooked. I omitted Freaky Is Shameful because it's a different way of wording the current name and thus has the same issues.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I meant to type Freaky Is Shameful And Beautiful, which I’ve now added to the crowner.

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project! Thanks for clearing that up.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Posting to make public that I gave One's Freakiness, Another's Beauty a Yea and voted for no other options.
"As long as I have my comrades with me, I can do anything!" (She/Her)Calling in favor of One's Freakiness, Another's Beauty, with Shameful to Self, Beautiful to Another being a redirect.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
Crown Description:
Consensus was to rename Freakiness Shame, due the requirement that someone else has to find the shameful trait attractive not being made clear by the trope's name. What should the trope's new name be?
I just wasn’t sure that renames always required a crowner.
In any case, if the previous rename is still causing misuse over a decade later, a second rename is probably worth it. Especially since it doesn’t even seem to have been discussed publicly before actually happening.
Indeed. Note that people did complain, and correctly predict the problem with the new name, at the time.
