Lara Croft: Forests of Ashihara

"Well, if there's a camp nearby, it'd certainly warrant interest. Though the question is, do we want to pester any potentially belligerent travellers? There's a road near here, perhaps it'll lead straight to civilisation. I was almost venturing on it myself until I overheard the commotion over here," Lara stated, gesturing towards the direction of the road. "I'm open to risks, either way. Though I've just gotten out of a particularly traumatic experience, which is saying something even for me, so I'm afraid I'll have to warn you that I'm not in the brightest of moods right now. In fact, I'm feeling a near-crisis coming on if anything..."

She bristled slightly, before shaking her head and clearing her throat in an effort to compose herself.

"Anyway... incoming headache aside, how're you all faring, excluding confusion...?"

The Doctor

"Ah, yes. One of those. I certainly haven't had one of those. Not even more than one of those because just one of those is too many of those to deal with."

The Doctor did little to mask their own impending trauma. They attempted to stay serene and calm, but their jittery hands betrayed their lingering fears and frayed nerves

"But what we need to deal with is getting to safety! If there's a road, we should get ourselves on it. Civilization isn't perfect, but it's better than scrounging for scraps. Though if there's someone else bumming around, we should talk to them first. They might know something we don't! About this place, how it works, anything! Information is power, espically in our situation."

But the truth was more complicated. Yes, those were all good ideas, but they didn't take her TARDIS into account. She was used to letting her stay put, but with things as they were, they could take that risk. And she needed to find her fam. She didn't know if they were here, but she didn't know they were ''not"' here. And if they were, talking to those people might bring her one step closer to finding them.

It was then she noticed the boy. "Oh, hullo! Didn't see you there! You saw the campfire over there, didn't you? Very observant! You deserve a gold star, yes you do!"

Another memory came bubbling up, an old gold star exploding into a million bits, but she forced it down. She had too many things to worry about. The last thing she needed was a guilty conscience. She kept herself in the here and now, focusing on the present, because the past was the last place she wanted to be.

"...wait a tick, what was that about flying?"

Forests of Ashihara (Yami Yugi)

The young boy starts looking through his deck of cards again as Lara and the Doctor speak, seeming uneasy about something.

”…I’m concerned, if I’m being completely honest. When I arrived here, I was separated from something of mine - two, actually. If the wrong person gets ahold of them, it could be extremely dangerous. While getting home is a priority, I can’t until I’ve retrieved those as well.”

{I’m not exactly comfortable with telling them about the God Cards, but since they’re the only people around and they’re as lost as I am, I don’t have much choice.}

Hiroto and the Doctor’s conversation catches his attention, as the device on his arm swings into a new position. The forearm-mounted machine then proceeds to light up and make a sound indicating that it has been activated. Yugi slides a facedown card into a slot on the front, then pauses for a second and places another.

{Just in case things get dangerous. I don’t like using the Puzzle’s power if I don’t have to, but I don’t know how dangerous this place is. Better safe than sorry.}

”A campfire sounds like a good start. At worst, we’ll find others like us - they might know something we don’t.”

Another pause, then he looks to Hiroto.

”…Did you say ‘flying?’”

Hiroto looks between Yugi and the Doctor before scratching his hair again.

"Well, the thing is, and this probably sounds crazy, but I somehow brought my Core Gundam into this world," he says before looking back in the direction of where he landed it. "Not just that, but the Earth Armour too. It's basically a giant robot with a support aircraft."

Okinoka - Arc

Well this is going from accidently eavesdropping to awkward to really awkward super fast. Mind reading? She can tell I'm is from another world from a glance? Are these two Japanese too? Arc paused for a moment to sort out his thoughts before awkwardly coughing, glancing around to see a couple people curious about Sora's excited banter. Fortunately nobody seemed too excited about the topic at hand, but they probably hadn't paid so close attention as to catch what was actually said. "Um well, in a sense I suppose. People from different walks of life can seem like they are from entirely different worlds." If you can read my mind maybe you can take the hint that we shouldn't talk about this in public? This isn't exactly common and people will think we are crazy or worse. We can talk about it later.

"My name is Arc, I am a simple mercenary traveling through this area. What brings the two of you to the port city Okinoka? Those shadows that you mentioned Sora, did you by chance see any in this area? I fought a few things last night but nothing you could quite describe as literal darkness."

Okinoka, Carrie White

"M-My name is Carrie White and yes, I read minds..." Carrie introduced herself to Arc. She's already reading more of Arc's mind. "No, I'm not Japanese; I'm American... I came to Okinoka as part of a mission given to me by— oh right! I-I'm sorry. We should've taken this to a more private place!"

She would come to realize that Arc preferred not having the other world talk out in public and she chastised herself for blurting such things out loud.

"Come, with me!" She called out to Sora and Arc out of embarrassment over her blurting and she headed over a nearby alleyway, motioning to the two to get over there.

Forests of Ashihara, Campfire

"Oh?" Kanami perked up at Yumi's entrance while somehow summoning a pair of bowls by seemingly jabbing something invisible in the air. "Oh, wow! Nice fashion sense; I totally dig it! Are you Japanese? I was born in Japan, but I moved to Italy a while back after I got married to my dashing hubby~! And now I guess I'm here, but I came to this part of the world looking for a way back! Ah... I guess I should probably explain that part, huh? Well, come sit with us! You want some soup?"

Another innocuous gesture of the woman's hand brought up another nameplate for this newcomer that only Kanami could see:

???? ????????
HP: ???/???
MP: ??/??
Lv. 15 Human
Class: Ninja
Sub-Class: Martial Artist

Only fifteen, huh? Kanami mused in her mind, peering a little more closely at the girl. Yeah, she looks it! Too bad she got caught up in this, but at least she'll be able to write a bestselling book about it after she gets home! Plus, I mean, she's a ninja! That's awesome!

"Soooo..." she began, ladling out hot minestrone into bowls and handing out spoons (and potentially summoning a third set, depending on the girl's responses) after Yumi had answered her question and either accepted or declined her offers for seating and food, "I gather you two are originally from Earth, like me, yeah? Now, don't panic, but we're actually in a completely different universe and on a completely different planet right now, strange as that may sound! This planet's called Foteinigi, and it's seemingly a sort of fantasy-based mishmash of cultures divided into a variety of continents, with each continent having one or two sorts of cultures based on fairy tales, mythology, folklore, legend, et cetera from our Earths. For example, the place I first arrived in this world at some months ago was part of the Kingdom of Atlantis in a continent far to the West of here, which is sort of the Italy equivalent in a continent full of nations based on European fairy tales and legends."

"The region we're in right now is called Onogoro-shima - AKA Ashihara no Nakatsukuni, but Onogoro-shima, or just Onogoro Island, is a lot less of a mouthful. It's the Japan equivalent, and part of a larger continent composed of regions based on the folklore of what we from Earth might call Far-Eastern cultures. In terms of time of year, we're currently one day after the planetwide Halloween equivalent, which people call "The Harrowing". Last night, there were a bunch of spooky things and creepy crawlies coming outta the woodwork, so I was helping to beat them up and keep them away from the capital nearby, but I've only been in Onogoro for a few days so far. I traveled allllllllll the way over the ocean to get here, thinking I might be able to find a way back to Earth, uh... for reasons that are a little too in-depth to get into at just a surface level explanation..."

"But!" she emphasized, raising a finger, "It looks like I was right, since there was this crazy-weird green meteor shower and lightshow last night, and suddenly more people from Earth are showing up outta nowhere! And if there's some kind of big event that dragged multiple people from Earth here, we oughta find some kinda clue as to how you got here and how to get back if we investigate, dont'cha think?!"

That said, she dug her spoon into her soup at long last and tasted of her handiwork. "Awwww yeah, that's the good stuff! Heehee! Oh yeah, by the way, I'm Kanami Minagawa! What're your names?"

Sora paused for a moment, processing Carrie's words. Once he did, he bounced on his heels even more excitedly. "Woah, really? You must be really strong! What else can you do? All of my magic is just throwing elements around, except cure, I guess. But what about you?" He would've been more than happy to keep interrogating Carrie, but then she brought his attention to someone else.

As the two had only parts of a conversation where Sora could hear it, he was a little confused when they were being directed to a nearby alley. As they walked, he turned to Arc to respond, "you mean the heartless? No, I haven't seen any around here. Honestly, if it wasn't for my keyblade, I wouldn't think any of my memories were real."

Arc - Okinoka

"Mmm." Arc made a noise of affitmation to Sora's response as they arrived to somewhere a little more private. It was reassuring that Sora was like an open book though it made Arc somewhat concerned for Sora's future safety.

This world is not as safe a place as Earth. As they walked, Arc got some mild concern over having his mind read all the time. Please forgive me if I think something wierd or embarrassing, you can't help what you think sometimes you know? On the other hand, being able to two-way telepathy ought to be pretty useful. I guess we should share everything and lay it out on the table, since the three of us are in similar states and may have a common goal.

In a private cranny where they would not be overheard, Arc started. "So I guess we should all share our current statuses. So all three of us were brought over to this world of magic fantasy?" Arc gestuted to himself. "I'm just a simple gamer from Japan put into the body of my avatar from a video game. I seem to have retained most of my skills including ones that did not fit my equipped classes but I am missing my strongest Holy Knight skills. Still just like you said about yourself Sora, I can also cast various elemental magics and restorative magic and two different teleports available to me thanks to the Arcane and Divine classes I have unlocked. Besides that there's my Martial classes."

Arc gestured to the world. "I do seem to be stronger than most people I've met here but I've only been here a couple months." The armored knight then tapped his helm with an almost hollow ring following. "Also... I've had some dreams lately and a feeling to come to this place. I assume meeting you guys is not a coincedence, so I ask. Did you experience something similar? Were you both also put into your video game avatars from Earth?" Arc added the last part although Carrie had already answered in his mind.

Okinoka - Carrie White

Now both Sora and Arc are in the alley, Carrie prepared to explain herself but she caught a glimpse of Arc's thought.

Don't worry, I'd seen worse. She telepathically responded.

"S-So, I got ourselves in this alley to give us some more privacy. My mind reading is officially called Telepathy I think. I can also speak to others through it and 'broadcast' visions to their minds. I also can move things with my mind— Telekinesis."

Carrie spotted a nearby bottle on top of a raggedy old box. With a quick glance, the bottle is now floating above the box. She turned her head to the left and the bottle was spent flying towards a wall, shattering upon impact.

After her demonstration, she listened to Arc explain where he's from. However she doesn't understand certain parts of it.

"...What's a video game?" She asked.

Sora took up his usual relaxed pose, hands behind his head, as he listened to Arc talk. Despite being totally clueless as to what Arc was talking about, he kept smiling. "Well, you've all seen my keyblade, it's pretty much the only thing I fight with," he explained, "and I can run around a lot faster than people around here."

He almost agreed with Carrie's question before jumping in realization a little. "Oh, you mean like the games I found for my gummiphone? I don't know what an avatar is, but that's really cool. My world isn't called Earth, though. I'm from Destiny Islands. I kind of sent myself here, I think. I used the Power of Waking too much and I just kind of faded away. Then suddenly, I was a kid. I've been here for the past 15 years, everyone thought I belonged here."

The Doctor

What was he going on about? She knew what a robot was. She knew what a giant robot was, she'd seen one herself. It was ages ago, sure, but all sorts of memories were popping out o the woodwork and that one was rather distinct. But she didn't know what a Gundam was supposed to be. Yes, he said it was a giant robot, but what sort of giant robot? Was it the kind that looked like it was made with thoughts and prayers and greenscreen, or was it capable of doing proper giant robot things? And how he'd get his hands on it? He couldn't be from the present or the past, not unless there'd been a massive change to history. Wouldn't be the first time, but if there was, she'd know. But she couldn't sense anything. She needed to know more about this Gundam and the best way to do that would be to see it up close.

"I think we'd all want to see that. Anyone who doesn't want to see it is absolutely daft. I can count the number of people who've seen a giant robot on my hands and that's about to include us."

But it wasn't the only thing she wanted to see. She didn't know what Yugi was doing with that thing on his wrist, but she knew holographic technology when she saw it. He must have been from the future too. Or a world where that sort of technology had already been achieved. Could be the same with Hirito. Both of them looked human, but she knew all too well that appearances could be deceiving.

"Right then! I don't know about you, but I want to see a giant robot! I haven't seen many giant robots, but chicks love giant robots!" She glanced at Lara. "They do love giant robots, don't they?"

Okinoka - Arc

Telekinesis should have its uses.. "Oh, you.. aren't familiar with video games? Hmm.." One of Arc's hands raised up to scratch where a chin would be. An average American wouldn't be unaware of video games, especially not in 20XX. Then Sora spoke and he wasn't even from Earth? At least he knows what a video game is, though he mentioned some odd phrases, and still had magic in his home world? He brought himself here? Arc started to mutter to himself "The flags for this are all over the place, but I suppose that's to be expected for 'real' life and not just a novel.."

He then cleared his throat, which for a skeleton you would think would be difficult, and chose a brief explanation. "Well, do you know what a Television is? A video game is basically a board game but with a moving picture to show you what is happening. In one of the games I play frequently, as a heroic knight defending the world from evil, and that person is my avatar, me. Whatever brought me here made the imaginary powers I had in the game real and gave them to me."

"In any case! My goals in this world is to see the sights, taste the foods, and experience the fantasy. But more immediately, something seems to be calling me and I suspect it is related to how I got here, but it could just as easily be a trap of some kind."

Hiroto Kuga (Ashihara Forests)

Hiroto actually felt a little awkward form seeing Lara's skeptical glare and hearing her tone in her voice. But evidently Lara wasn't the only one interested in seeing his Mobile Suit and Mobile Armour. Yugi looked damn right exicted. It oddly reminded Hiroto of Parviz...

"I guess I'll show you guys, then. It's a small walk back, but..." he says before bringing up his info-screen just to double-check where he landed it. Just outside the treeline. Good, that meant it really wasn't that far.

"It's this way," he then says pointing behind him. "I can't exactly call it remotely from here."

So he walks back, leading the others to the clearing that he landed his Gundam in, and it's not long before they can see a robot kneeling on top of a blue aircraft.

"That's my Core Gundam II and the Earth Armour. It may not look like much, but..."

Okinoka

Sora continued staring at Arc gormlessly as he contemplated the situation. He was just glad to have other people who knew some of what he was talking about. Maybe they were all from different worlds, but they got what it was like to suddenly end up somewhere else, and that was enough.

"That's how I ended up here," he said, "I followed Yen Sid's advice, 'let your heart be your guiding key' and this is where it was guiding me. It's too bad I couldn't just open a portal, but I guess that only works between worlds. I bet we were being led here so we could meet up, and maybe even meet up with some others. You think we're the only ones who aren't originally from this world?"

Campsite

As Bill and Yumi were getting themselves settled, and attempting to process Kanami's veritable barrage of exposition, they began to hear another sound, echoing across the clearing. Perhaps they might have mistaken it for a distant deer call or sparrow at first, but it soon became clear that whatever this high-pitched noise was, it was definitely human.

"HELP! IS SOMEBODY OUT THERE?! PLEASE, SOMEBODY, HELP!"

Gundam Landing Site

Hiroto led his new acquaintances to the spot where he'd parked his flying machine, but soon the four found themselves in for a nasty shock. From around the other side of the machine, four men in loose-fitting blue tops appeared brandishing spears, pointing them straight at our heroes. "Intruders!" some cried out, while one shouted, "Halt in the name of the daimyo!"

Then, from out of the trees, there emerged a man on the back of a stocky and shaggy brown horse draped with red rope. This was a man dressed in thick-plated green armour, with an ear-concealing helmet and a golden crest; the unmistakable armour of an 11th Century samurai. He looked to be in his mid-to-late forties, with a square jaw, a scarred cheek, and a suspicious gaze that seemed to stab at each of our heroes in turn.

"You!" he barked suddenly, pointing to Hiroto. "Explain these foreigners, and this flying beast, and do it quickly."

Okinoka

As Arc, Carrie and Sora compared notes on their old worlds, the sudden sound of trumpets cut through the hubbub of the port marketplace. At the other end of the street, a platform had been set up, ringed by men in the shiny armour and helmets of the royal guardsmen. Stood atop the platform was a man dressed in the fine robes and peculiar hat that marked a palace official, who unfurled a scroll as he called out across the marketplace.

"If I may have your attention," he called out. "I bring urgent news that affects you all. As no doubt you are aware, today your Prince is to be married at Okinoka Castle, in a grand and much-anticipated affair. However, this morning it became apparent that some of the preparations made were not up to the expected standard. Firstly: it is the decree of your Prince, and his beauteous bride-to-be, that every building on every street is to be decorated with flowers and ribbons to honour this celebration. The Guardsmen will be passing decorations to every home, and your local florists will be recruited to ensure a full supply. Compliance will be expected from every home, and those who are not prepared in time will be fined. Secondly: the catering of the affair, though provided by the finest chefs recruited from every prefecture in the empire, has sadly been found to be lacking. Therefore, every cook and baker in this city will be led to the palace, and be expected to present their wares, to be judged by the happy couple. These are your instructions. Your Prince thanks you for your diligence and understanding. That is all."

Lara Croft: Gundam Landing Site

As they approached the inactive giant machine, Lara couldn't help but hold her breath as she looked up at it; marvelling at its design and stature. This was no rudimentary device, like she'd expected. This thing looked modern, daresay futuristic, and beautiful in design as well as functional. She was impressed, and was about to admit as such before the spearmen came and surrounded them.

A pair of clicks, and her guns were raised toward two of them. Though she didn't fire, she smoothly moved herself nearer to Yugi, primarily to show to the others that her intentions weren't purely of confrontation in this case.

“There's no need to wave your spears about like that, gentlemen. There's a child present, after all, and we shan't be a harm,” she said briefly, before clicking the safety back into place on her pistols and pointing them skyward instead. She gave them a rather stern look. “I'll let my friend explain this machine, but I'd like to raise the point that your authority is intimidation enough without endangering us.”

She still lingered in front of Yugi, to be sure. She despised mooks. Those who acted like fodder beneath the whim of a confrontational authority figure. She felt it was like children playing pretend more than anything.

Yumi || Ashiwara Forest

Yumi was taken aback, to say the least. The person she had come across, the people, were clearly from Earth, but this wasn't like any Earth she had encountered, and she was still in her Lyoko body. It wasn't like she had been transported. This was annoyingly confusing. She shook her head at the offer of food, at least. After all, she didn't have tastebuds. Which sucked, because that minestrone looked really good. Odd would be all over it if he was here.

In his Earth body, because Lyoko didn't have taste.

She did sit down, though, because it felt like the right thing to do, and because she really wanted to know what on Earth was going on. Or what on Foitenigi, she supposed. The explanation made sense, but it was "A lot to process," Yumi said. It was kind of nice that they were in the Japan equivalent, and it was weird how ready she was to accept the explanation as given, but it felt too in detail and absolutely insane to be fictional. For a moment, she thought it might be a XANA attack, but XANA had never been this creative.

Also, it's amazing what you can learn to believe.

"Yumi Ishiyama," she replied, half-smiling. "Nice to meet you, Kanami, and thanks." Though the idea of being trapped here forever wasn't one that she was okay with, honestly. She had to get back to her friends, as soon as possible. They needed her.

Then there was a sound in the distance, and for a moment, Yumi thought it might be an animal. But she was good at recognising screams for help, and she jumped to her feet. "I'm going to go see who needs help," Yumi said, not waiting for permission, or backup before she moved towards the scream.

“Whoa…!”

Yugi looks up in awe at the Gundam.

“That’s amazing, Hiroto! You can really fly this-“

The young boy stops mid-sentence as the men arrive, looking worried for just a moment…

{Yugi!}

…before his demeanor changes once more. The young man stands up straighter, his expression stern and unafraid once more.

”We are simply travelers, lost in this forest. We don’t mean any harm, I can assure you. There’s no reason for any of us to be pointing weapons.”

All the same, he’s holding that hand of cards ready as if playing one is actually going to help him somehow. And then there are the two face-downs he already has slotted into that thing on his arm…

{I could summon Celtic Guardian or Summoned Skull - I don’t even have to use the Puzzle, just a hologram might scare them off. But I don’t want to make things worse and get anyone hurt. I’ll wait for now - I’ve still got my Traps and Swords of Revealing Light if things get dangerous.}

Hiroto Kuga, Gundam Landing Site

Hiroto instinctively raises his hands at the appearance of the soldiers, and seeing as the leader of those soldiers had asked, he would have answered, were it not for Yugi and Lara speaking up.

"Uh, sir, what they're saying is true. We just got lost looking for... someone. We thought they were in the forests here, but we haven't found them yet."

Giving a sideways glance at the others before looking back at the Gundam and Armour, he adds, "And sir? Please step away from the Gundam. You're, uh, scaring him."

The Doctor

The Doctor was amazed. It wasn't her first giant robot, but it was much more impressive than the others she'd seen.

"Brilliant. Positively brilliant! Did you build this yourself? No, don't answer that, of course you couldn't. Not a knock against you, but it'd take an awful lot of resources to build something of this calibur."

She whipped out a small rod, almost like a magic wand. She held it up towards the Gundam, letting it beep and blink, humming as it glowed. It was a technological marvel and she wanted to learn as much as about it as possible.

But she soon put it away. She knew they'd run into natives sooner or later, but she'd hoped they'd be friendly. They looked to be Japanese, maybe somewhere around the 11tu century? But something about them was off. This whole thing was off. If they were in Japan, she'd have felt it, but the nature of their location was as big a mystery as when they started.

But she already had a plan. She nudged Laura in the ribs and scowled, but she wouldn't make a fuss about it.

"So sorry, gentlemen, but it seems there's been a misunderstanding."

She stepped forward, pulling out a small slip of paper from her pockets. To Lara and the others, it was completely blank, nothing more than an empty postcard. But the soldiers? They'd see whatever they wanted to see. It wasn't fool proof. The exact contents depended on the background and mental fortitude of her marks, and a strong enough will could prove less suspectible. But it was a nifty little took and one that had saved her on countless occasions.

"I trust this clears things up? Please tell me this clears things up..."

Hiroto Kuga, Gundam Landing Site

The Doctor's tool would inform her that the Gundam (and the vehicle-like machine it was resting on) has its armour somehow made of a composite alloy that is both lighter, stronger and far more durable than titanium and is apparently very heat-resistant as well, treated with additional heat-resistant alloys on top of that. Another thing to note is that there are weapons systems built into both machines that seem to use highly-advanced plasma and/or particle beam emitting technology. Those weapons systems, alongside the thrusters and mechanical joints seem to be powered by a very powerful, but small fusion reactor, though strangely, there are issues with how much power was being produced right now.

All in all, a very powerful piece of technology on its own, though if the Doctor looked closely enough, there are signs that the Gundam was apparently built very precisely, but also very quickly. Almost as if something else entirely had a hand in building this thing.
