I'm leaning toward the latter. As I said above, ultimately AI is going to be a thing in the future, and I'm pretty sure the argument about how it's wrong to train AI on unlicensed voices is not going to work in court.

I hope on games, I hope it is disclaimed that “generative AI was used to create this product” as plainly as you can see. People dont want to purchase something, then wake up to a Yongyea vid telling people half the voicecast are amateurs who sold out their own voices

I am pretty sure 2K did this already by making people go through ads for their 70 buck game.

How are you gonna put ads? Are they built into the data already? Do European or Asian players get American ads still? Am I gonna get Ron Desantis political ads in my game next election if I was in Florida?

In a normal world, I'd imagine they're talking about product placement or advertisements in background elements, like billboards and stuff, but it's far more likely they're literally talking about interrupting gameplay to put ads.

Also jeez, talking about ads, that website without an adblocker is endless clickbait advertisement banners.

I'd imagine that the implementation would take the geographic region into account, and the ads would either have to be pulled from online or else be for "evergreen" products like food.

WBD won't be delisting Adult Swim Games, will be giving back control to their creators.

People angry with Microsoft's closure of Tango Gameworks have done a reverse review bomb of Hi-Fi RUSH. It is now Microsoft and Bethesda's highest-rated game on Steam.

This is a wild week for the big publishers

My friend is currently convinced the industry is heading for another crash.

Given some high profile flops, it makes me question the future of some of the bigger companies, honestly.

I'm sure this thread's discussed it before but a crash is unlikely for a number of reasons; mostly the fact that the PC gaming market is still growing and that some of the larger devs do still make a point of releasing games at multiple budget tiers (notably Capcom and Nintendo, the latter having a vested interest in padding their console libraries anyways).

That and a lot of the circumstances around The Great Video Game Crash Of 1983 came about from video games being seen as "just" a toy in their infancy, if not an outright fad that was likely to die off at some point. That's not the case any more, as not only is the medium itself proven but it's rubbing shoulders with other mediums to greater effect than before.

The only thing likely to crash is massive budget games that are made to make a quick buck, then have the team that made it fired for the stock market boost.

I think some people need to stop hoping for a major crash,it's not going to happen!

In my opinion, any modern video game crash is going to look less like the The Great Video Game Crash of 1983 and more like the Fall of the Studio System. A few major studios might go under after big budget flops, and those that remain will likely bleed talent to the indies for a while, but the industry as a whole will survive even if it has to change a bit.

The only crash that's likely is the Western AAA gaming space.

An outright crash isn't happening (like others have said, the industry as a whole is stable), but Microsoft's stake is definitely in trouble if they keep this up. There's no way their current trajectory is sustainable, especially if people stop wanting to work under them. Why stay if they fear getting fired even when successful?

I can also see a couple other AAA devs going under. Ubisoft had a major bomb this year in Skull and Bones — another failure like that could do massive damage to them.

Sorry for the double post, but the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was reported by WBD to have contributed to their quarterly losses.

And they want to keep going with the live service thing? Why not just set money on fire? It'd be quicker.
