Ymmv / Welcome Freshmen

• Harsher in Hindsight: In "Choices", Walter passes a test and gets moved up to tenth grade, which Walter decides he doesn't want. He says that he wants to stay a freshmen, and when Merv says Mr. Lippman must think they're holding him back, he says he likes being held back. In season 3, he will get held back (and dislike it at first) and remain a freshman for the rest of the series.
• Jerkass Woobie: Mr. Lippman is a grumpy principal who dislikes freshmen, but he's also often on the receiving end of their antics, if he's not injured by new, faulty technology implemented into the school. He's also not just disliked by the students but by some of his staff.
• Squick: In "How We Look", one of the teachers regularly sneezes and wipes his snot onto his sweater (with the kids joking that he has back-up sweaters if he vomits on them). When Walter and Kevin sneak into his classroom at night to see if he has back-up sweaters in the classroom closet, they see their teacher sleeping there, and in his sleep he wipes his nose on Walter.
