YMMV / Zombie Survival

Go To

  • Broken Base:
    • Are zombies underpowered? People will vehemently claim they aren't since most rounds often end with zombies winning. However, others claim that it's not a problem of if they usually win or not; it's a problem of "are they fun to play?". Compared to the humans that get to mow them down, most zombies play in the rather monotonous 'throw self against the barricade, do a small amount of damage, then die to a human' gameplay loop, which often makes it not very fun for those on the zombie team. However, others claim that it is very much a Acceptable Breaks from Reality to give humans even a remote chance of surviving in the first place.
    • Zombie Escape maps. Instead of barricading and trying to survive wave after wave, the goal is for the humans to follow along a path and complete objectives while working towards an end goal. Some people love it since gives a much more clearer objective and you're not confined to a single room for most of the game. Others hate it for feeling incredibly monotonous for both zombies and humans since humans often have access to Purposely Overpowered weapons to make up for their lack of barricades, often meaning zombies spend most of their time being spawn camped while humans just wait outside the spawn rooms while holding down mouse one until the next path opens up.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome: Plenty of players are hesitant to barricade certain locations, especially if there's more than one entrance to the final barricade room. In addition, doors seem to be religiously overused if more than one can be brought to a single doorway for a barricade. The 'Blaster' Shotgun is also one of the most common starting weapons, for its versatility.
  • Game-Breaker: Doors, when stacked properly, can easily hold out for the entire round. High durability, can be hard to hit when placed properly and often extend back into the room enough that humans can safely repair them without being scratched at by zombies. Some servers have special zombie classes designed to melt through cades that rely on multiple props bunched up together, though.
  • Goddamned Bats: Headcrabs. They're small, agile, and prone to making humans waste ammo on missed shots. While they lack in damage and health, they can pose an annoyance to any barricade that has large enough holes for them to lunge through, but they become outright lethal if no one inside the barricade has any way to heal their team.
  • Scrappy Weapon:
    • Sniper rifles are nigh-useless in Zombie Survival, thanks to the horde based swarms making single target burst damage a case of Crippling Overspecialization. Highly open maps can prevent this, however.
    • Lower tier shotguns suffer from a similar problem, often doing too little damage with too much reload time to be useful in the early waves. Thankfully averted with the higher tier shotguns like the Boom Stick, which can usually one-shot several zombies bunched together.
