- Awesome Music:
- ZED's boss theme, particularly at 1:20 where it takes a dramatic orchestrated turn, which wasn't present in the original arcade version.
- The 15th Prelude in Minor, Op. 18, an underrated classical-sounding track filled with despair that serves as the final boss theme.
- The ending music, a sorrowful piece that's first heard during the sunrise, followed by shots of the previous stages, all abandoned.
- Cult Classic: It's probably the least remembered game in the franchise, but still has a small following who remember it fondly.
- Demonic Spiders: Zombies with shotguns, especially if there's more than one in the same area.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Rikiya Busujima. He even made a surprise appearance in Project × Zone representing the entire House of the Dead franchise.
- It's Hard, So It Sucks!: The difficulty was one of the game's main criticisms, even for an arcade game.
- Narm: The voice acting is considered among the worst in the franchise, and the plot doesn't make any sense. How did ZED highjack a ship just moments after he was completely destroyed?
