YMMV / Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: Even though they're Reverse Duels, having Skye/Blue Angel/Blue Maiden duel and win against Spectre, Bohman, and Ai respectively is greatly satisfying for most fans considering the suffering she got from their hands in canon.
  • Funny Moments: In an Achievement Hunter twitch stream, Michael famously lost against Seeker on the first turn in a record-breaking 7 seconds after saying it's better to go second than first. Then Ray lost on his second turn against the same Seeker in the same way in the same week.
Ray: What are the chances of that happening to me? No fucking way dude, I just got Michael'd!
  • Game-Breaker: In Single Player matches, there is no Forbidden and Limited list, allowing you to put 3 copies of any card you want, from the start. Yes, you heard that right. Every single Game-Breaker from the history of the game to the point of VRAINS is at your fingertips. This includes the broken Zoodiacs, Pot Of Greed, the Dragon Rulers, Magical Scientist, Last Will and freaking EXODIA. Now you can steamroll your opponent easily with these cards. This speedrun is just an example of how this can be abused. For those who were screwed by The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard during their childhood, now it's time to make your revenge.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the manga version of The Final Duel, Part 5, Yami Yugi uses Magical Dimension's effect to destroy The Winged Dragon of Ra but because Kazuki Takashi forgot he established effects like that don't work on Ra, the anime version used the card Ragnarok instead. Here, Ra can be blown away with Magical Dimension during the recreation of Yami Yugi and Yami Marik's duel thanks to lacking most of its effects.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Many picked up the game in order to fight as their favorite characters and use their decks.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • Opening booster packs is a chore. There's no bulk buying or opening multiple packs at once, which means you'll have to manually open up a booster pack one by one with no way to speed up the animation. You can’t even enter a code to buy single cards at an inflated price, either, unlike every other game in the series, so good luck on getting specific cards if you only need a few from a pack. You'll be spending hours and hours just opening every pack until you get all the cards you need, or you can macro it if you know what you're doing.
    • The summoning animations can't be turned off or skipped in any way. While they are awesome the first time you see it, not so much when it plays every time the monster is summoned. Especially with Yugi who has 3 copies of Monster Reborn in a lot of decks and often summons Dark Magician about 4-5 times during the game. The Xyz Summon animation is also irritatingly slow.
  • That One Boss: Legacy of the Duelist has completely Schizophrenic Difficulty, but by using the Story Deck, this is bound to happen. See this page for details.
