YMMV / Yoshihiro Tatsumi

Go To

  • Once Original, Now Common: Some readers may experience his work as such, but for their time they were incredibly transgressive, focusing on topics such as: bestiality, homosexuality, abandoning old people for starvation, illegal abortion, or fetishized cross-dressing.
  • Paranoia Fuel: His stories are dark and dense, but with a strong realism. Most of his short stories are inspired or based on newspaper articles. They show ordinary people falling to vice and crime, often by mere chance.
  • Vindicated by History: While his work was almost unknown outside Japan until the early 2000s and is obscure in Japan itself, his work received a renaissance since Drawn and Quartely rediscovered his short stories and published them in the English-speaking world. He is now considered one of the most important and influential manga artists of all time.
