YMMV / Yomawari: Lost in the Dark

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • The connection between the Mysterious Girl and the Human-Faced Bird spirit watching the town both of whom are named Kotori. Is it merely coincidence that the two share the same name, something that the Mysterious Girl notes in one of the collectibles? Are they actually one and the same or perhaps different aspects of the same whole?
    • All of Mugi's interactions once its revealed that he's been Dead All Along. Were all of Mugi's appearances purely hallucinations or were some of his appearances actually his spirit briefly returning to help Yuzu?
  • Breather Level: The Dog Spirit memory, which is pretty much just one simple chase. It doesn't even have a level, taking place entirely in the streets.
  • Iron Woobie: The Mysterious Girl. Though it's clear she's going through problems of her own, she does everything in her power to cheer up and help Yuzu in every way she can. Kotori is trying to find out what happened to her mother, who had disappeared. While her notes reveal she didn't always like her, she's worried enough about her to go out and find her. She finds her mother dead in the snow of the mysterious forest and ends up cursed. Unfortunately, Mugi's bell, one of the keys to undoing the curse, is with his corpse and Yuzu's inability to accept his death kept Kotori from finding it, which ultimately doomed her. In spite of all that, she tries to help Yuzu undo her own curse as much as she can with a smile on her face even as she's slowly transforming into a bird and does not blame Yuzu at all when she realizes that she can't escape her fate.
  • Padding: Compared to the first two games, Lost in the Dark has a ridiculous amount of collectibles, which makes post game item cleanup really feel like a chore.
  • That One Level: The boat/cliffside level is a long Marathon Level involving lots of backtracking to pad it out. Not helped by the fact that some of the scripted segments involving the water spirits and the flickering lights can be difficult to get around due to jank making it so that they leave their posts to chase you before the light flickers.
  • The Woobie: Poor Yuzu. The game starts with her being mercilessly bullied in school and once the game properly starts, she learns she's been cursed and has to go through her spirit-ridden town to regain her memories to undo it. And even after she regains them, she has to dig deeper to learn that she's been suppressing the memory of the death of her cat the entire time. By the end, she has to give up on her friend, who is unable to undo her curse. Yuzu might not have lost any body parts like the previous protagonists, but she ended up losing the two most precious people in her life.
