• Die for Our Ship: Many viewers dislike Kuniko because she doesn't want Yawara and Matsuda to be together. In the end of manga and anime special, she let Matsuda go by pushing him at the stage where Yawara is standing.
• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Spaniards Loves Yawara! It does help that manga and anime focused on 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
• Moral Event Horizon: In Episode 51, Teleshikova injures Jody's leg. Jody points out that it's all part of judo, but to Yawara it's unfair and disheartening.
