• Fridge Horror:
  • Before the invasion, author Deepak Chopra claims to have been in contact with The Race for some times and speaks of a "message of peace and love" from them. A short time later, he gets abducted by the Department of Homeland Security and hasn't been heard from since. Wonder what happened to him?
  • According to Naomi Cohen in Chapter 5: Interlude to War 2, the EMPs The Race dropped killed millions of people. How? Well, an EMP unleashes an electromagnetic pulse that takes out anything electronic. Basically, it means that people died in ways from civilian airliners suddenly falling out of the sky, to those on life support flatlining, and people with pacemakers suffering a sudden heart attack.
• Fridge Logic:
  • After The Race launch nukes on several Human cities, plans to strike the ships in space with nukes are put to the side for the time being. Wouldn't the world want to destroy the nuclear stockpile of their enemy?
  • In Chapter 5: Interlude to War 2, Naomi Cohen recalls reading a story about would be alien conquerors trying to take over Earth armed with muskets, meaning that all (if not some at the least) the works of Harry Turtledove exist in this universe as well. So either this means:
    • That the World War series doesn't exist in this universe.
    • No one has made a connection between the two and cracked open one of the books to find a potential weakness.
    • Or the invasion inspires Turtledove to write the series in this universe much later than he did OTL.^note The answer? According to Word of God, it's the first one.
• Genius Bonus: In Chapter 4: Total War, it's mentions that unnamed Italian Cold War fighter jets work fine against Race Killercraft. The only Cold War era fighter still in Italian inventory is the F-104 Starfighter (or rather an Italian made copy, the Aeritalia F-104S), an aircraft known more for stalling mid flight than it's combat record. So in other words, Race killercraft got their asses handed to them by what most aircraft enthusiast call a piece of junk.
• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • They story was posted back in 2012 and has Hugo Chavez dying early via heart attack (though the circumstances are suspicious). Fast forward to 2013 and he dies in the exact same way (though it definitely was under natural circumstances).
  • One of the first place The Race lands in is Kiev, Ukraine which is reduced to a complete warzone and the military and government are forced out of Kiev. Three years later in our timeline, Kiev is taken by pro-Europe protesters and Kiev really◊ has◊ become◊ a warzone◊. After President Viktor Yanukovych is evacuated from Kiev, he ask for military assistance from Russia. He gets it in our timeline as well.
    • This became even harsher when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with Kyiv becoming a central target in Russia's earliest plans and being continuously bombarded by Russian missiles and drones throughout the war once taking the city outright failed.
  • The Race repeatedly bombed The Vatican, killing hundreds of civilians. The Pope decided to remain in the city to keep human morale alive rather than to evacuate. The Pope is Benedict XVI, who resigned the papacy in February 2013 in our timeline. In the timeline of the fic, he probably was pondering leaving the papacy, because he didn't consider himself capable of handling the situation.
• Moral Event Horizon: The destruction of Washington D.C. suburbs ^note The nuke was intercepted by a USAF air patrol and was originally heading towards the capital itself., Tijuana, Milan, and Dalian ordered by Atvar killing thousands ^note Chicago was going to be nuked as well, but was destroyed by Patriot missiles mid-course..
• Paranoia Fuel: After The Race drop nukes on five Human cities, it must be very hard for people everywhere to sleep at night wondering if they will die in a nuclear fire. At least some of the world's population has gone through this fear before.
