  • Broken Base: Is the book a well-written modernization of Wonder Woman's Golden Age years? Or is it just Grant Morrison seeing if they could write Wonder Woman while simultaneously filling the story to the brim with Straw Feminism?
  • Complete Monster: Hercules is a savage misogynist who is responsible for the trauma of the Amazons, as well as Diana's father. Attacking the Amazons and stripping them of power and agency, Hercules rapes Hyppolyta, attempting to force her to be his personal Sex Slave while giving the remainder of the Amazons to his men to suffer the same, boasting that their children will live and die by his grace.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Wonder Woman sits by an elderly woman's deathbed. The old woman calls Wonder Woman her "angel", believing she's a relative of hers.
  • Never Live It Down: The moment where Diana explains to Steve (an African-American) the Amazonian philosophy of submission to a loving matriarchal authority was the most talked about moment of the first volume for how tasteless it was. The thing is, the scene was deliberately presented that way to point out the Values Dissonance of the original Marston writings and illustrate her ignorance of Man's World (Trevor even has a Beat Panel to showcase an appropriate You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me! face). Unfortunately, the irony apparently slipped past some readers and they took it as blatant racism.
  • Older Than They Think:
  • Tearjerker: In Vol 2, Hippolyta's death at the hands of Paula.
