YMMV / Witch's Heart

Go To

Welcome to the mansion. Enjoy your stay...

THERE WILL BE UNMARKED SPOILERS. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

  • Angel/Devil Shipping: Ashe/Claire and Ashe/Noel, with the former being a shady man who won’t hesitate to kill and both of the latter being incredibly kind and selfless.
  • Awesome Art: All of the artwork in this game counts, being gorgeously rendered sprite work. The sheer amount of variations there are on the CGs alone adds to this as well.
  • Awesome Music: Not only do the BGMs sound awesome on their own, the game also has Opening Themes and Ending Themes. In every part of the game. With lyrics. You don't see something like this often in RPG Maker Games.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Lime, the series' Big Bad. People either like her for her cute design, cheery personality, her capability as The Chessmaster playing the mansion's residents around like fiddles, and sympathize with her horribly tragic backstory; or find her an entirely despicable villain who disregards everyone's suffering and only thinks of herself. There's an amount of people supportive of her who are also bothered by her questionable point of view in Sirius' Conclusion.
    • Ashe also gets this treatment to a lesser extent. He has a sympathetic motive together with a tragic backstory and has been struggling with guilt for years, but some think that his Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse. The fact that he is capable of and has coldheartedly murdered Claire and the other residents of the mansion doesn't help.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: People took note of Noel's utter dedication to Claire, their wholesome interactions, and the whole Childhood Friend dynamic, making Noel/Claire a popular ship in the fanbase. The canon also seems to lean towards this couple.
  • Foe Yay Shipping: Ashe/Wilardo is a common choice for the Yaoi Fangirl. They have many similarities and the clearest rivalry, as the ones who go after the Witch's Heart, and also have tried to off each other for a variety of reasons. All said and done, Wilardo still believes in Ashe's humaneness and cannot actually fire the killing shot at him, whereas Ashe treats the immortal's Heel–Face Turn in the Bonus Stage in a way not unlike a lover's betrayal.
    • Ashe/Sirius is an option, despite (or perhaps, due to) Sirius' irrational distrust and annoyance towards the green guy, and the fact that the lavender became Ashe's victim 4 out of 5 times (Bonus Stage included). They still have some amicable moments, like when they drink together in Sirius' Conclusion.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • In the main game, Sirius isn't shown to have anything that can protect him aside from the amulets. However, in the Bonus Stage and his Conclusion, he actually has smoke bombs. Either he recalls having them through the dream invoked by the Purple Shard, or he knows he will have to go head-first into danger and packs the bombs up just in case.
  • Ho Yay: With 4 of the main cast being pretty boys with colorful personalities, this is inevitable.
    • Some of Noel's dialogue with Sirius can come off as flirting.
    • Ashe/Wilardo, their incredibly strong tension aside, are often shown along with the other in official artwork and have occasional harmonious moments, like when Wilardo enjoys Ashe's piano playing. Wilardo is also very empathetic to Ashe, in whom he sees someone strangling his own neck, and wishes for others to not think of him wrongly. Then there's this little gem:
Ashe: "You and I carry the same scent."
    • Wilardo/Sirius' slow rise in popularity doesn't hinder the fact they have quite a few moments together. When Noel doesn't present, Wilardo is usually the person Sirius puts all of his trust into and finds comfort being around, as Wilardo's stoicism gives him the serenity he needs most.
    • The popularity of Noel/Ashe skyrocketed after the release of Sirius' Conclusion.
  • Les Yay: Claire is not exempt from this, with the somehow always beautiful female demons around her.
    • Zizel is always together with Claire. Always. When she cooks, she sleeps, or she bathes, anytime. They're also having fun with each other's presence, from playing rock-paper-scissors, reading, to singing together while washing dishes.
    • Charlotte and Lime have a bit of this going for them as well, especially in the flashbacks.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Due to how similar they sound, Sirius' name is often used in place of the phrase "Serious?" and its variants.
    • Otome Game Explanation
  • Nightmare Fuel: See here.
    • Whenever someone starts killing people, the game's usually happy atmosphere plummets fast as we discover why they did it, and what it means.
  • One True Threesome: The Childhood Trio (Claire, Noel, Sirius) is supported by people who ship 2 members of the trio together but don't want to leave anyone behind or turn the 3rd member into a Third Wheel (usually Sirius).
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Lime is meant to be a Tragic Villain, and the audience is supposed to see her punishment to be sent to a worse hell as a bad thing. Unfortunately, the cold hard truth is that most of the cast have pretty tragic backstories too, to one degree or another, and none of them grew up to be sadistic monsters out to torture humanity. What doesn't help matters is that Lime's goals come as petty, arrogant, and hypocritical. She goes on big rants about how humans are selfish who only care about themselves; and yet Lime is exactly that, wanting to be loved by someone as twisted as her, while brushing off Charlotte's affections. Many of her actions brought sorrow to people; one of which caused Ashe's Start of Darkness. At least Rouge pointed out in-universe how wrong her philosophy and views were, and how they are most definitely not something you should sympathize with.
