YMMV / Witch Craft Works

  • Awesome Music:
    • The ending theme is very catchy and cute.
    • The ending is also very upbeat despite the... Black Comedy.
      • And if you can't get enough of the cute witches being tortured, someone made a modified, hour-long version of it. Enjoy...
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The five Tower witches have become just as popular as the main characters. Them singing the very catchy ending helps.
  • Iron Woobie: Kagari. Even if she is a borderline Invincible Hero, all those protecting Takamiya from the batshit insane witches must have been mentally draining. Then we learn what her childhood was really like thanks to the Pendant Memory arc. She's got damn good reason to be fond of Honoka.
  • Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: While the Tower Witches ARE the main conflict of the entire series and are after Honoka for being a witch, they're more likable and enjoyable to watch than Ayaka's Fan Club, who bully Honoka (physically and verbally) for his closeness towards Ayaka and fill his locker up with hateful messages. On top of that, the Fan Club's actions while not as serious as the Tower Witches, are basically a metaphor for an obsessive and openly toxic fans than anything else.
  • Magnificent Bitch: Weekend is a Tower Witch and explosive trap master who makes deals with other witches to weaken the seals holding the White Princess Evermillion. With a powerful bomb, Weekend distracts Kazane Kagari with protecting Tougetsu City, while she uses bombs, she had planted prior to damage the bases of the Workshop Witches. Freeing herself when seemingly defeated, Weekend nearly defeats Ayaka Kagari in combat, only losing due to third party intervention and ends up joining the heroes. After joining them, Weekend proves herself an inquisitive investigator, coming close to finding the answer to a series of mysterious events and only stopped by the antics of her ally. Though a self-proclaimed mediocre witch, Weekend uses a combination of intelligence and technology to take down two of the series' most powerful magic users.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The character of Medusa in the anime is a fairly unique case. She's a combination of normal anime-style animation and stylized CGI-cell shaded animation. It works very well. Do note that this is one of few cases where an anime actually benefits from its noticeable CG effects: Medusa is a very unsettling person.
