- Audience-Alienating Era: A lot of anime fans saw potential in the studio for their work on Steins;Gate and Katanagatari. However in 2014, many fans began losing interest in the studio after Super Sonico was universally panned and the disastrous Gecko Ending for Akame ga Kill!. Only worsened in 2015 when Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception ended up being a disappointment especially among fans of the original anime. Many seem to agree they began recovering with Re:Zero, though those who watched Is the Order a Rabbit? will tell you that they actually did have one solid show in that time period.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Is the Order a Rabbit? was yet another Moe anime that no one was really looking forward to and most fans had chosen to skip out on. However those who did watch it found it to be one of the more memorable installments in the Moe genre, with the show even getting a second season a year after the first season aired.
- Girls' Last Tour, released in late 2017, can also be counted as this. While it underperformed financially at the time of its original release and plans for a full adaptation were rejected, it remains one of the most beloved Moe anime and a Cult Classic even among people who hate Moe.
- Even Better Sequel: With shows like Steins;Gate, Katanagatari, Re:Zero, and The Devil is a Part-Timer! they can be considered this to Oriential Light and Magic, the studio of which most of the employees come from.
- Growing the Beard: Steins;Gate is what sold most people on this studio and officially made them a [==name to know in anime.
- Moe: Not really this studio's thing but there is Is the Order a Rabbit?. Though most of their shows usually have a token moe character...
- ...and then you have Girls' Last Tour, whose protagonists (thanks to Tkmiz's signature art style) are often referred to as potatoes.
- Maturity Is Serious Business: If it's not this is not their moe-show, expect an almost complete absence of any vulgarity, silly humor or funny happening on the screen. In particular, Re:Zero has a whole series of episodes, during which Subaru is absorbed in insanity and does not react to stimuli.
- Memetic Mutation: Although in general the studio is highly respected in the anime community and most of its adaptations are considered successful at least in popularity and quality of animation, their problems with endings have become almost a legend and a constant topic for jokes or mockery.
- Older Than They Think: Despite being a relatively recent studio, this studio is actually made up of former employees from Oriental Light and Magic, led by producer Gaku Iwasa. Their output of Darker and Edgier shows only becomes more uncomfortable when you realize that these are former employees of the studio that worked on Pokémon or makes more sense when you remember this was the studio that worked on Berserk.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Many of their shows border on Darker and Edgier but they generally tend to alleviate this trope. The Devil is a Part-Timer! followed Steins;Gate and Katanagatari and the second season of Is the Order a Rabbit? aired between Akame ga Kill! and Re:Zero. Their upcoming series Matoi the Sacred Slayer could potentially be one of their Lighter and Softer outings to cool down from Re:Zero but only time will tell.
- Win Back the Crowd:
- The studio got a lot of criticism for Super Sonico, the Gecko Ending of Akame ga Kill!, and Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception. Thankfully however, Re:Zero has met the same level of acclaim as Steins;Gate and Katanagatari with a lot of people seeing it as a return to form for the studio.
- Seem to be doing this for light novel adaptations in general. While many anime fans have not been pleased with the quality of recent light novel adaptations, WHITE FOX has produced some of the better ones in recent years like Katanagatari, Re:Zero, and The Devil is a Part-Timer!.
