• Adorkable: Elina is the obvious choice for the adorkable character of the series, though Janni could also count.
• Angst? What Angst?: Your mother gets pregnant after a one-night stand, your father wants nothing to do with you, you grow up biracial and facing prejudice and scorn from other people because of something that wasn't your fault, your mother works so hard to support you that she becomes ill and can't work anymore, you don't have any friends or family to rely on so you have to take a job to support her, and you barely have any free time because you're so busy with work, school, and secret spy missions, and you're constantly worried about your ailing mother. Wow, Simeon is a stoic little bastard.
• Heartwarming Moments: In Book One, when Elina finally makes it to HQ and finds Kara in her cell, and their reunion. To a lesser extent, near the end of Book Two when Janni fulfills his promise to Elina to take her to see the mermaids at the Delta.
• Moment of Awesome: When escaping from the government HQ, Kara uses her magic to save both her and Elina.
