YMMV / What Not to Wear

  • Harsher in Hindsight: Stacy and Clinton's friendship in the last few years have taken a turn for the worse. As Clinton wrote about Stacy in his book, and she blocked him on social media. It all goes down to poor communication between them, but it doesn't look like a reunion is in the works anytime soon.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Imagine that for the past two weeks people have been spying on you, and snooping in your wardrobe; just to play ALL OF IT on national/internationally broad-casted television. And you had no idea. At least you can say no — otherwise, they wouldn't have an episode.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song:
    • They occasionally use a knock-off of Duran Duran's "Rio" for their subject's post-makeover interview.
    • They also use a knock-off of Britney Spears ‘s “Toxic” during the trashing of the clothes segment.
    • They sometimes use a knock off of “Short Skirt Long Jacket” by Cake during the trashing segment.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Some of the fashion (both pre and post make-over) make it clear that it's a show of the 2000s and early 2010s.
  • Unnecessary Makeover:
    • Some contestants state in no uncertain terms that they don't want any "help" from the hosts and like themselves just the way they are. Too bad they're not allowed to do that on this show.
    • Some contestants were famously allowed to say "no" to getting a haircut. This was allowed, most likely because the goal of the show is not to traumatize the contestant and make them hate their "new look".[[/note]]
    • In most instances, the clothes they're wearing are no worse than average.
    • In the tenth season, one contributor was particularly reluctant to get a makeover, and flat-out stated at the end of it all that she liked her old look better. She seemed so genuinely unhappy that Stacey and Clinton actually offered to give her back all of her old clothes and allow her to go home unchanged. Jodi ended up sticking with the new wardrobe, though she maintained it was largely for the sake of her daughters, who had nominated her.
