YMMV / Welcome to the Game II

Go To

  • Complete Monster: The Doll Maker- see the original game's YMMV page for details.
  • Creepy Awesome:
    • The Dollmaker is as depraved and terrifying as his website would suggest in real life, but the fact that many people choose to willingly summon the man (even though it's likely going to result in death) just shows how popular he is among fans.
    • The entire reason for the return of The Breather. A terrifying Serial Killer known for his creepy breathing? Yes. However, his cool design and Nightmare Fuel is enough to make him an Ensemble Dark Horse.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The Breather from last time was so popular that he was brought back for the sequel.
  • Fridge Brilliance: If you keep the lights off in your apartment for too long, the Noir are guaranteed to kill you. It seems random at first, but makes more sense when you discover, during the ending, that Clint is/was being filmed the whole time for the amusement of Adam. So it's very likely possible that keeping the lights off (i.e. broadcasting no visible footage to Adam) would prompt Adam to lose interest in the whole ordeal and order the Noir to just kill you and move on to another project.
  • Funny Moments:
    • You can find some pretty screwed-up stuff on the deep web. However, if you're playing this game, you probably already expect that. What you probably didn't expect is for there to be a site that's apparently entirely published by rocks.
Site: Do not contact us. You will be ignored. We're minerals and cannot write.
    • The ending of 1337 Mode consists of the entire Noir cult dancing while Adam stands in place clapping, all while ridiculously loud, silly music plays and low-quality congratulations flash on the screen.
  • Memetic Mutation: Around the time this game was released, there was the pre-existing "FBI OPEN UP" meme, partially spread by the Rainbow Six fandom. It became popular to reference it when talking about the NYPD in this game since their game over highly resembles the meme.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The "Pipe Dreams"-style hacking minigame is the new "lines of code".
  • Spiritual Adaptation: This game is basically The Running Man meets SomeOrdinaryGamers (If All Myths Are True).
  • Sequel Difficulty Spike: The first game really only had a few mechanics (i.e. look out for kidnappers, hide when they're there, find codes in pages, and counter-hack). This game more than doubles that. You have to watch out for around five people out to hunt you (each with their own means to deter them), deal with power outages, traverse through a very large apartment to grab deliveries, check source codes, make money, and a few other things in addition to those that carried over from the first game.
  • Squick: While there’s definitely content that can be called gross in the game, the ilovecats website is just one of the sickest things you’ll probably ever read in your life.
  • That One Boss:
    • Lucas. He's probably the deadliest threat in the entire game because of how hard it is to successfully avoid him or his penalties. Forget to lock the door? You're completely vulnerable if he decides to visit. Don't turn off the computer because you were in a rush to get to a hiding spot? He'll erase all of your notes and steal a lot of DOS-Coin. Even when you do everything right, he can take up to five minutes to leave. Also, when he begins hunting at 11:30, he has a low chance of appearing behind any door you open and will kill you instantly.
    • The Doll Maker. Turns out he's real, and he lives in the same apartment as you do. Not doing what he says (finding new victims for him to his specifications) results in instant death, but actually fulfilling the orders is a huge waste of time and requires you to run around a lot, leaving you open to other threats like Lucas or the Noir. He also leaves out part of his specifications - if you mark a woman over 30, you'll die anyway. The saving grace is that he's actually an Optional Boss; you never need to visit his website (which activates him) to find a key or the second wiki page... but you might try to do so during your first playthrough.
