YMMV / Welcome to Sanditon

• Accidental Innuendo: Edward Denham is a cinema and sci-fi geek and he used the phrase "blue pill" as a way of switching off the in-story application Domino. It was probably meant as a reference to film The Matrix, where "blue pill" represented a choice to be "in", and Edward said he would be using Domino even if he found it rather creepy in a Big-Brother-esque way. Not geeky Gigi understood that "blue pill" would mean "out" and that it would be used to end Domino's recording. However, some viewers didn't get that and thought Edward meant another blue pill — the Viagra. Edward has slightly creepy vibes, but he's a young twenty-something guy who probably doesn't need it. Weird. Who knows, perhaps the writers went for both meanings of "blue pill".
• Adorkable:
  • Gigi is cute and geeky. Though she's very attractive in a not-dorky way, too.
  • Edward Denham, the mayor's assistant, is a self-proclaimed technology and "cinema geek". The writers played with his character a lot as he could come off as n icky weirdo without a spine or later as a nice but clueless guy. ^note The Jane Austen version of him was an admirer of poetry and a man who was courteous to ladies, but also a bit shallow and not very perceptive. He didn't get the point of Clarissa, by Samuel Richardson (then again, a lot of people didn't understand the awful implications of the character of Lovelace, so it may either be proof of naivete or Domestic Abuse tendencies.
• Growing the Beard: For the all-time fans, Clara and Edward made episode 9 more interesting and finally added a lot of dramatic tension to Welcome to Sanditon. The fans became shippers for that couple and everyone squeed in relief phrase amongst the like of: "WE GET A SHIP! YEEE!". The episode had solid dialogue and they avoided tedious fan vid compilations, that are supposed to make the series interactive and role-playing based, but which proved slightly boring and they receive lots of hate from the commentators. Around episode 21, more critical viewers started seeing the plot and found video and acting interesting.
• Shipping: The creators are aware that a good and favourite ship can do wonders with a fandom, but they are playing a dangerous game of shifting the viewers' sympathies several times. It is all getting messy. First Ed Denham is cute and shipped with Gigi, then he's a creep and must be forever alone. Later he gets cute again and is shipped with the beautiful Clara, and then he's forced to date Ms. Griff. STOP THIS MADNESS. Or whatever.
