YMMV / Weeping Willow

Go To

  • Cry for the Devil: For what little screen time she has, Jewel seems to be the typical arrogant Career. However, her death scene, where she's betrayed and killed by her own District partner may elicit her some sympathy.
  • It Was His Sled: Hardcore Hunger Games fans may predict the end, if they remember that Finnick won his Games when he was 14 and he was known as the youngest Victor, meaning that 12-year-old Willow couldn't have survived her Games. Also, even if Willow had been 14 or older and had won her Games, she still would have died some time prior to the third Quarter Quell, which takes place 23 years after the events of Weeping Willow, as Johanna is said to be District 7's only living female victor at that point. It has been pointed out in the comments a few times.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The quiet moment after the Bloodbath, with the close ups on the dead tributes.
    • The Downer Ending. Tristan may have defeated the Careers, but his efforts were all in vain. Mortally wounded by Ares, his sister dies before his eyes. The music that plays during the scene makes it worst, as does the fact that he tries to give her her locket so she can look at it one last time, but she dies before he can give it. The moment when the cannon sounds while he's not looking at her and his reaction when he hears it... It's really sad. The Downer Ending becomes even worst when Fridge Horror kicks in and you remember what fate awaits Tristan, as a Victor of the Hunger Games. And let's not forget about all the trauma and Survivor's Guilt he'll have to go through.
      • Also Tristan's last words to Willow. While the acting and dubbing (even though they're pretty decent for an amateur flick) are often mentioned as the weakest part of the film, this line is really heartbreaking.
Tristan: "You were supposed to go home..."
  • The Woobie: Willow and Tristan. See Tear Jerker above and Break the Cutie on the main page.
