  • Angst? What Angst?: The show usually averts this with one exception: Mattie. The poor girl is blamed for a murder which she has no way of proving she didn't do because Cairo got her blackout drunk. Then she goes to prison where she, reasonably, has a terrible time. But, she comes out of all this with, at most, a slightly more pessimistic outlook on life.
  • Awesome Music: It has some fantastic numbers.
    • "Don't Even" - The team sings about the pressures of high school.
    • "Before the Breakdown" - Farrah and Chess sing about their addiction.
    • "Captain of the Team" - Reese sings about her cheerleading dreams and how she wishes people would like her.
    • "Wallflower" - Riley and Cairo have an argument about each other's success.
    • "Defense" - Cairo convinces Riley and the team to frame Mattie for the murders.
    • "Move On" - Kate and Anneleigh sing about their grief with the ghosts of their loved ones.
    • "Shut Up and Cheer" - Eva sings about how all she wanted was to go to a better school and blend in.
    • "IDK" - The team try to figure out which one of them committed the murders.
    • "The Breakdown" - Riley snaps and admits to the murders.
    • "Finale" - The team sings about moving on.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Riley tells the team not to mention their privilege in front of Eva. Later Eva questions why the team practices in Riley's basement instead of their nice gym. Annleigh's response? To tell her that they aren't allowed to mention their privilege in front of her.
  • Funny Moments: Well it is a horror-comedy.
    • Any quip that comes out of Cairo or Kate's mouth.
    • When Farrah shows up, she immediately starts drinking from her water bottle which Riley questions the contents of.
      Riley: And that's just water?
      Farrah: ...yes.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The Finale.
    • Mattie is warmly welcomed back to the team, and she seems to be doing a lot better.
    • Kate and Eva are happily dating.
    • Annleigh has found a new boyfriend.
    • Reese is a respected member of the team, and she creates the new cheer.
    • Cairo takes over as Team Captain and seems to be doing a good job.
    • Annleigh and Kate have shown that they've moved on but not forgotten.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Everything about Farrah and Chess's deaths from the flashing lights to bloodstains.
  • Wangst: The end of "Before the Breakdown", has all the girls join in with their doubts and problems, but it comes off as wangst because their problems don't really compare to Farrah and Chess's addiction.
  • The Woobie: pretty much everyone.
