YMMV / War Crimes

Go To

  • Ass Pull: A large part of the plot is disjointed and/or doesn't really make much sense.
  • Designated Monkey: Tyrande. Several of her witnesses turn against her, and much of the book reads like a who's who of Warcraft characters lining up to criticize her. Also no one in-universe brings up or seems to care that Tyrande too has been hurt by the Horde; they regularly assaulted her realm, slaughtered her people in skirmishes, ravaged her land and killed a demigod she revered.
  • Fridge Logic rears its head as Alexstraza changes from her customary revealing armor to a dress, despite the fact that she had no problems wearing the skimpy attire on battlefields where it would be prudent not to expose so much skin. Although it could be because the author wanted to avoid the potential Narm in describing the type of dress she usually wears.
    • There's also the fact that while the trial is to determine Garrosh's fate, there is no discussion over who would deliver the deathblow if Garrosh is sentenced to execution (one real-life reason that Garrosh wasn't killed at the end of Siege of Orgrimmar was fear of fan backlash over who dealt the killing blow... which became a moot point in Warlords of Draenor).
  • Ho Yay: Wrathion and Anduin had a significant amount of this given that they are the only people who had a resemblance of respect for each other. The scene at the lake, taken out of context, can be easily fitted into a romance novel.
  • Moment of Awesome: After Sylvannas goes on a rant berating Baine for playing the roll of Defender so well, calling him a boot licker among other things, Baine gently takes hold of Sylvannas' arm and calmly denies her accusations. Sylvannas is sorely reminded that Baine is a powerful warrior and could have snapped her arms like twigs in that moment.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus among the fans is that the book isn't bad, but falls short of the mark of good.
  • Unpopular Popular Character: Tyrande.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Jaina falls into this in regards continued outrage over Theramore and acting as if wasn't a proper military target is this in light of how the Northwatch Expeditionary Unit, who proudly wear the Theramore tabard, was invading Horde lands in Durotar, Azshara, and the Southern Barrens, while also fighting to claim the Stonetalon Mountains for the Alliance.
