  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Box office disappointment in America but a gigantic hit in Europe. To the point that not only is it 5th place as movie with highest ticket admissions of all time in Italy, the later Soviet Union's legendary War and Peace (1966) was literally produced as a counterattack on Western cinema because of the unexpected success of King's movie in the communist world. In fact the choice of casting the then unknown Ludmilla Savelyeva who wasn't even an actress but a ballet dancer was directly inspired by Audrey Hepburn's performance.
  • Questionable Casting: The fifty-year old Henry Fonda playing the twenty-something Pierre. Even Fonda acknowledged that he was too old for the part.
