• Heartwarming Moments: "In a course of a lifetime, some things do matter." It's Sal acknowledging that even though there's no point in doing it, it helps her heal.
  • George Winterbottom, when his wife Norma confesses that she's tired of being respectable and that she had a child before they got married. He's hurt and confused over the fact that she's been lying to him for their whole marriage and that she just left without a word the way she did, but he also clarifies that he doesn't think less of her for the underlying question of having had a child out of wedlock (he shocks everyone by replying to her concerns over this by saying "To hell with respectability!") and that he has nothing against Mike, just that he doesn't know him; he then takes the extra step and says that he always thought a son would be a nice addition to the family, indicating that he wants to move forward.
• Tear Jerker:
  • The Reveal about Sal's mother. Several flashbacks involving her become very much harsher in hindsight.
    • Add to the fact that Sal went to her grave after taking Gramps' car (without a license, mind you) to wish her a happy birthday and in a sense, to say goodbye to her mother.
  • "I'm sorry to say that our gooseberry died at 2AM this morning."
  • Sal admitting in the final chapter that she's still a little jealous that Phoebe's mother came back, and hers did not.
