  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Lots. “Wormholes” and “Via” off of Via are good places to start.
    • “Erased” and “Up All Night” are good examples of their softer side. Even people who hate Different Animals LOVE “Pullin’ Shades.”
  • Broken Base: Just about everything:
    • No Sleep, a logical follow up to Via or it’s proof the band only had one good album in them. That said, most agree “Erased” and “Vahle” are fantastic songs.
    • Different Animals, a bold direction and showing how to blend nu-metal and metalcore properly or the band trying too hard to fit a square peg in a round hole. Special mention to Pouya’s feature on “On Her Mind.” Some loved him, others thought Pouya was pure cringe.
    • Barr’s return to the band. While Barr showed and he still has his vocal chops on "Subhuman" and are happy to see him again, some think that Barr and Terry don’t stand out vocally from each other like Gus did. The single “holywater” is a point of contention, it’s either the band getting their head out of their asses and going back to the sound that put them on the map or they are trying to make lightning strike twice going back to their Via sound and not standing out in the 2020 metalcore climate.
  • Epic Riff: “Via” has a truly epic riff, same with “Wormholes.”
  • Fandom Rivalry: Enforced, Volumes and Northlane started beefing on Twitter, all leading up to a world tour with both bands.
  • First Installment Wins: The consensus among fans is that Via is a stellar album, and right up there with classics like Periphery II, Augment, Born of Osiris’s The Discovery, and Discoveries as essential albums in the djent genre.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: “Up All Night” is harder to listen to, given Gus’s falling out with Barr and later Raad.
  • Never Live It Down: Gus was outed for not doing guest features that he was paid for. Years later, people STILL give him shit for it.
    • Barr’s drunken antics at Rockeville will haunt him for a while.
  • Signature Song: “Wormholes” and “Erased.”
  • Tear Jerker: “Pullin’ Shades” off Different Animals; “Up All Night” and “Erased” off No Sleep.
    • “Vahle” is a special mention, it’s about a friend of the band who passed away in a car accident.
    • Diego’s tragic death in 2020, dying at the young age of 27. This hit his older brother Gus extremely hard, as he lost his grandpa days before and having to deal with his departure from the band. Makes you want to give the guy a hug.
  • Tough Act to Follow: Via is still regarded by most of their fandom as Volumes' best album, and subsequent albums haven’t lived up to its legacy. That might explain why they started changing their sound on following albums.
