• Alternative Character Interpretation: Did Malvina's soul replace Verena's in Verena's body, or did it merge with it? Maybe Malvina gets to spend some more time with her son, and Verena no longer has to lead a Flying-Dutchman type of existence, getting to settle down and have a family (not to mention gaining genius piano skills). Look at the opening and closing voiceovers: both contain the words "I hardly know the woman I see." Would that have been true at the end if Malvina had fully taken over? Also, the closing voiceover contains the words, "We are, none of us, quite who we were." She could just as easily have said, "We are, NEITHER of us, quite who we were."
