YMMV / Virgil

    Roman poet
  • Misaimed Fandom: The Middle Ages decided he was a "natural Christian" because the Fourth Eclogue sort of vaguely seem to predict the birth of Christ (if you squint).

    Mike Jones, the wrestler
  • Awesome Moments: The Heel–Face Turn at Royal Rumble 1991. The context makes it all the better. Before this happened, we had the infamous moment where Sgt. Slaughter, in the midst of his American turncoat gimmick where he supported Saddam Hussein, wins the WWF Championship from the Ultimate Warrior, which the crowd was very pissed off about. After that, Virgil and Ted Dibiase toppled Dusty Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes in a tag match, leading to DiBiase asserting his dominance by berating Virgil after the match and demanding "you pick that belt up right now, and put it around my waist!" So when Virgil smashed the Million Dollar Championship belt into his face, the crowd finally had something to cheer about, and boy did they ever. Topped only by his successful match with DiBiase at Summerslam 1991, where Virgil gets a big win in Madison Square Garden, winning the Million Dollar Championship. 1991 was Mike Jones' year, big time.
  • Funny Moments: In 1993, there was a running joke in WWE Magazine where Virgil was demanding that he be put on the cover for once. So they made a mock cover for Virgil just to appease him. Here is the cover, in all its exaggerated glory.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In one interview he told Shawn Michaels "YOU need an Attitude Adjustment!" That term would become the name of John Cena's signature move.
  • Memetic Loser: Thanks in no small part to photos of him alone at wrestling conventions, he's become this to wrestling fans online.
  • Memetic Mutation: 'Fuck' money, thanks to a series of bizarre interviews.
  • Narm: An especially Radical example; his SummerSlam 1992 promo towards Nailz culminated with Virgil declaring himself "too legit to quit."
  • Unexpected Character: He was quite unexpectedly brought in under his Soul Train Jones name (the only one WWE don't own the rights to) by All Elite Wrestling in 2019, first to take part in Chris Jericho's hilarious parody video package taking the piss out of Cody's one from earlier (listed as a 'Wrestling Legend'), then brought back a few weeks later to be the host of Jericho's "Thank You Celebration" (where he got put in the Million Dollar Dream by SCU when they run in to stop the Inner Circle from beating up announcer Justin Gabriel).
