• Hollywood Pudgy: Victoria refers to herself as obese several times in the film. While the real Victoria was known to have gained a considerable amount of weight later in life, particularly after the death of her husband, she's played by Judi Dench who is certainly not obese. The film's costuming tries to give this impression by outfitting Victoria in large, billowing dresses, but none of her claimed obesity registers in her face.
• Spiritual Successor: To Mrs Brown, another film depicting a close relationship Queen Victoria had with a subordinate. It also starred Judi Dench as Victoria.
