Supplements with their own pages include:

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: This edition loosened expectations on orthodox religious belief among the Setites, to the point that secular examples are now entirely reasonable. Yet, it also made tempting people into breaking rules or convictions, the core principle of their religion, into the Setites' universal clan compulsion. This begs the question: Do the Setites feel this drive to corrupt because they are Set's children, as their religion claims? Or did they construct the religion in order to justify what they had the irresistible urge to do anyway?
  • And You Thought It Would Fail: With the Origins Award for Best RPG of 2019 and Fan Favorite, there has also come out sales figures for the Edition. Thanks in part to V20 reviving interest, international markets, a revived tabletop market thanks to Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, and reaching stores as well as online press—V5 is possibly the best selling edition of the franchise.
  • Contested Sequel: While there are many fans who enjoy the new Hunger and Touchstone mechanics and appreciate a fresh take on the series, the sheer amount of changes to the source material, bizarre (and in a few notable cases, downright offensive) stylistic choices, and separating information on what used to be core setting pieces like the Sabbat and the Camarilla into separate books in what many fans believe to be little more than a transparent cash grab, have led others to swear off the Fifth Edition entirely and just stick to the 20th Anniversary Edition.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: 5th Edition was dogged by complaints about how it was attempting to be Darker and Edgier, metaplot changes, and not being Onyx Path Publishing's planned 4th Edition. Only the original seven clans, Caitiff, and Thin Bloods being playable was also widely criticized, though the other seven were made playable later. Plus the changes to Disciplines. The metaplot again. Yeah, well, let's just say that there was a lot of complaints about the changes.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: An accusation of this due to the focus on being Darker and Edgier as well as playing Villain Protagonist characters. It's now much harder to play a Friendly Neighborhood Vampire. The Anarchs have become more Sabbat-like, the Camarilla more cruel, and the Sabbat are implied to have gotten even more extreme.
  • Vindicated by History: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition won the 2019 Origins Award for BEST RPG and Fan Favorite.
