YMMV / VS Whitty

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: It's a pretty common mistake among people who aren't very familiar with Friday Night Funkin' to assume Whitty is in the game itself—he's not, he's in a mod and is SockClip's own OC who was made before Friday Night Funkin itself.
  • Broken Base: The remastered version of "Ballistic" had been met with mostly positive reception, though some claim that the new version was a downgrade from the old version and should've never been changed, while others feel the new version delivers a better sound and experience. The Definitive Edition uses the older version for Story Mode, while the new version is exclusive to freeplay.
  • Crack Pairing: There's a surprising amount of shippers pairing up Whitty and the Boyfriend together, despite the fact that A. Whitty clearly doesn't like the Boyfriend, B. The Boyfriend is already dating the Girlfriend, and C. Whitty is canonically in a relationship with Carol. Doesn't stop shippers from drawing fanart (both SFW and NSFW) or even make a mod about the two.
  • Common Knowledge: The eye graffiti on the wall of the background is believed to be IRIS' red eye symbol before IRIS was established, which was popularized by BlueStopSign's theory video. It was never intended to be that at all, as this mod predated the origin of the symbol. It’s not even red.
  • Crossover Ship: Whitty and Carol are a surprisingly very common ship, be it as a Crack Pairing or a genuine Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl relationship, the size difference the two have helps. It's not uncommon to find fanart, fan animations or outright mods featuring the two. It was later proclaimed canon by the creators of both characters, and the two dating would form the plot of the "Date Night" expansion week.
  • Fanon:
    • Some fan works depict Whitty and Garcello hanging out or otherwise interacting, because both were encountered (and rap-battled against) in a back alley.
    • It's very common to have Boyfriend be friends or bros with Whitty, despite the mod having nothing close to friendship being shown.
  • Fanon Welding:
    • There's a small following for the idea that Whitty is brothers with Julius Oppenheimmer Jr. due to both being anthropomorphic bombs.
    • After answering fan questions in tweet form, the creator of the Vs Hex Mod and this one decided that Whitty and Hex are best friends.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Everyone in the fandom was absolutely thrilled when Whitty was announced to make a grand return, bigger than ever.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Whitty screaming Explanation
    • "The Whitty Effect" / Whitty Syndrome Explanation
    • Whitty exploding Explanation
    • Can he beat Whitty tho? Explanation
  • Recurring Fanon Character: Whitty himself has become this, thanks to the high quality and popularity of his mod. Newcomers would be forgiven for thinking that Whitty himself is an official member of the Friday Night Funkin' cast. To the point that he often appears in fanart and memes, and the developers occasionally retweet art featuring him.
  • Signature Scene:
    • The animated cutscene after "Overhead," where Whitty snaps, crushes his microphone, and screams, tearing the fabric of reality out of pure rage.
    • The infamously hard opening to "Ballistic," which opens immediately with minijacks, staircases, and trills that will catch casual players off guard.
    • The equally infamous 'jack stairs,' a series of jacks arranged in a stair pattern which Whitty dishes out at 1:30 into "Ballistic." And yes, you do have to sing it back to him while harmonizing.
  • Signature Song: "Ballistic", for this mod, and arguably for Friday Night Funkin' mods as a whole.
  • That One Level: "Ballistic", Whitty's final song where he goes One-Winged Angel is called the hardest song to come out of a Friday Night Funkin' mod and for a good reason, relying on pressing a ludicrous amount of key mashing segments and high scroll speed to beat it, unless you've had experience with extremely hard and quick songs, something rare for the much casual fanbase that the game has compared to other rhythm games, not even playing on Easy will save you here.
    • For the updated re-release "Ballistic" has gotten much more manageable in the starting segment, however by properly syncing to the vocals, the beatdrop that lasts for four verses has turned into both the "Roses" and the "M.I.L.F." beatdrop on steroids. Better have nimble fingers.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • The removal of Updike and his song "Remorse" from The Definitive Edition was not received well.
    • The pairing of Whitty and Carol eventually became non-canon at SockClip's request. Fans who ship them were not happy about this.
  • Unexpected Character: Sky's in the Date Night's end credits caught people off guard as at the time, bbpanzu heavily regretted creating the mod due to the controversy that ensued thanks to it. Even more unexpected is that she appeared right next to Momi and FL Chan, two characters who bbpanzu had created mods for in the past, assuming direct responsibility for the mod's creation in a sense.
