YMMV / Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!

Go To

  • Adorkable: Sakurai dedicates a significant portion of his free time to gaming, this being one of the reasons Uzaki likes to frequent his apartment, as they share most of their time together gaming.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Most people whom have heard of this anime are mostly just knowledgeable about the fact that Hana Uzaki (and by extension the female members of the Uzaki family: Tsuki and Yanagi) are impressively busty ladies.
  • Friendly Fandoms: A small one with, of all things, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. In Episode 3 of the anime, Uzaki mentions that she is struggling against a "bald scissors dude", whose "shields explode when I hit 'em with my blade!" This is a dead ringer for Sundowner's boss fight, and fans of MGR and Uzaki Chan (as well as both) were generally very happy with this. As a result, the two share some overlap.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Sakurai finally confessing his feelings to Uzaki and asking her to be his girlfriend. She treats it in her usual jokey manner before seriously agreeing to date him and is clearly excited and happy to finally be together.
    • Sakurai kissing Uzaki for the first time during White Day. The fact that he passes out immediatly after makes it double as a funny moment, but it's still a very cute scene.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: The first season of the anime was liked, but considered too short and felt even shorter given the large focus on gags. Fans of the manga especially were annoyed finding the first season cuts right before the story really begins to get good.
  • Magic Franchise Word: "Sugoi Dekai",note  the words on Uzaki's Fun T-Shirt.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Put that ass away!" Explanation
    • "You can hate whatever you want, but don't diss what someone else likes." Explanation
    • Drawings of characters across the gender spectrum and of varying body types wearing Uzaki's signature "Sugoi Dekai" shirt became a popular art meme among the anime community as an offshoot of the longer-running "Mega Milk" meme, similarly playing around with how the wording of the shirt openly lampshades Uzaki's large chest.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: A lot of discussions about the series surround Uzaki's design, with debates over whether her large breasts that clash with her otherwise very short and youthful-looking appearance in a mainstream Slice of Life series breaks the Willing Suspension of Disbelief or not, with practically everything else about it (the stories, the comedy, other characters, etc.) being tertiary.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Many reviews and reactions to the anime series have stated that, apart from the "controversial" character design, the series is a still fairly bog-standard slice of life comedy anime.
