YMMV / Un Chien Andalou

  • Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: Dalí and Buñuel claimed that it was mostly based on dreams and didn't have any sort of meaning. They were, however, fans of Sigmund Freud, whose psychoanalysis tried to read meaning from dreams, so don't take the "no meaning" statement too seriously. Basically, the movie's like a Rorschach test; you find your own meaning.
  • Faux Symbolism: You'd think this movie symbolizes a lot of things, but Dalí said in an interview that nothing symbolizes anything.
  • Funny Moments: The expressions on the two priests faces as they're dragged behind the dead donkey-pianos are kind of amusing.
  • Misaimed Fandom: The film was made to be as insulting as possible to the French bourgeoise, yet that very same crowd applauded it during its premiere and continued to hold it in high regard, much to Dalí and Buñuel's dissatisfaction.
  • Signature Scene: The eyeball scene, of course.
  • Squick: The eyeball scene. Which also doubles as the film's Signature Scene, oddly enough.
  • Watch It for the Meme: Honestly, the reason most people watch the short is for the infamous eyeball scene.
