• Evil Is Cool: Let's face it: even if he is an absolute bastard, there's no denying that Black Battler is one of the coolest villains in the When They Cry series.
• Fridge Brilliance: The game uses a Chess Motif: the Rounds open with "1st Movement", "2nd Movement", etc, and close with "CHECK MATE!"; very appropiate considering that many players out there refer to fighting games as "Chess with reflexes".
• Nightmare Fuel: Erika's Meta-Super, "A Perfect Corpse Examination". If she hits her opponent with a Diving Kick, she re-enacts the murders from Episode 6: a cinematic plays showing Erika climbing on some windows while giggling, followed by some Dramatic Thunder and a sudden zoom on her face. Then she jumps down, puts a garbage bag over her opponent, and slits their throat.
• Suspiciously Similar Song: Sin, the BGM of the Aquarium stage, has some resemblance to the Back to the Future theme.
