YMMV / Ultima II

Go To

  • Good Bad Bugs: Apparently being able to gain tri-lithium from vanquished foes is a glitch. It can also be found in the farthest levels of dungeons, which seems to be the intended source. As it is, in most versions of the game there is no reason to ever enter a dungeon. The FM Towns Ultima Trilogy version has this glitch fixed.
  • Porting Disaster: The original game had the same filenames for remote planets as they did for cities on Earth, but on different floppy disks. When these were copied to the compilation versions, Ultima I-VI Series, and Ultima Collection, the files with the same name were overwritten. This didn't result in the game being unwinnable, but did cause missing content.
  • Sophomore Slump: Some fans consider the game to be a mild case of this. It's definitely not considered a bad game by any means, but it doesn't advance the game mechanics that much over the first Ultima, and has a lot more Guide Dang It! moments and a bigger reliance on stat and money grinding than any other game in the series.
