YMMV / Twitch Plays Pokémon Randomized Black

  • Fan Nickname:
    • BBAARRRPCC, the starter Mareep (and later Ampharos), commonly had its name shortened to "BARP".
    • P ZYQQXNW♀ the Nincada had its name interpreted as "Proxy" due to its ability being Technician.
    • Due to the run status page still displaying sprites from DBZ Team Training early in the run, Sandshrew showed up as the character Turles, leading to it being referred to as "Turleshrew". After it evolved in Marowak, a quick check showed that the corresponding DBZ character would've been Janemba, thus it was given the new nickname of "Janembone".
    • gn the Luxray was commonly referred to as "Good Night". After its release, it was replaced by another Luxray which thus earned the nickname "Good Morning", and was even renamed "gm" to match.
    • Characters that got randomized into or from N saw said letter capitalized in their name when mentioned by players, the two most prominent examples being "ChereN" and "CilaN".

  • Funny Moments: The entire search for the Thick Club could qualify as a funny moment in its own right. After Sandshrew evolved into Marowak, the chat decided to look for a Thick Club, a bone-like item that doubles Marowak's attack when it holds it. Thus started a desperate quest to check every single item, browse every single shop, and talk to every single item-giving NPC, all in the hope of finding the elusive Club, with the chat growing ever more disillusioned with each consecutive failure. So disillusioned, in fact, that they eventually gave Marowak a Rare Bone to hold for the remainder of the run instead... which unlike the Thick Club, is completely useless.
    • It wasn't until the run was over that the terrible truth was revealed: due to the settings of the randomization, specifically the "Ban Bad Items" setting, certain items with very limited use were excluded from the item randomization, including items restricted to single Pokémon species... like the Thick Club. In other words, the chat spent a good chunk of the run obsessively searching for an item that wasn't actually present in the game.
    • It gets better though. As detailed in this Reddit post, there was actually a source of items that was unaffected by the "Ban Bad Items" setting: the Treasure Hunter on Route 13, who gives the player a different item every day. The chat did in fact attempt several times to obtain the elusive Thick Club from him, even having the Streamer reset the game in order to get additional attempts, but to no avail. And for added irony? Two of the items obtained during this unlucky string of attempts were Lucky Punches.
