• Jerkass Woobie: Miles is this, but he has good reason for it. His wife and kids are dead, and yet he is unable to die with them.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Winnie doesn't drink the water Jesse showed to her before he left and therefore doesn't spend eternity together with him. Jesse comes back to visit her 100 years later and finds she has died. Many tears were shed.
  • Also a Bittersweet Ending: while Winnie and Jesse weren't reunited, it still is revealed that Winnie grew up and had a long life with a loving family.
  • In the Disney film, Miles recounting how he outlived his wife and children while he's still alive.
