  • Friendly Fandoms: With Son of the Sannin. Given that both fanfics feature Naruto in a different team with Hinata under a female sensei that doesn't get much spotlight in the manga, heavy focus on the jinchuriki as characters as opposed to mere MacGuffins, and arcs covering similar topics (such as the Kirigakure Civil War, or Hidan and Kakuzu invading Takigakure to capture Fū), it's no surprise that both fics share a lot of readers. The fact that the authors are friends and enjoy and reference each other's fanfic helps as well.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • During the Kiri Civil War arc, the "bloodline hunter" Karitoriki quickly shows himself to be an irredeemable monster when not only does he whip up a civilian village's toxic hatred of people with Bloodline Limits, but he takes out five captive and brutalizes Bloodline-bearing people for a public execution. When Shikamaru and Haku show up to save them and take him out, he gleefully activates a series of explosive seals on the five captives' hearts that explode their chests and kill them all instantly, with the victims including a surviving member of Haku's clan and a sobbing, terrified 8-year-old girl whom Shikamaru had just promised to get to safety and freedom.
    • At the end of the Takigakure Invasion arc, Suien and Kakuzu, upon realizing their side is losing and they're likely going to die, both decide to try and kill as many Taki civilians as they can before they go down. While Anko manages to stop and kill Suien before he can pull it off, Naruto and Hinata aren't so lucky with Kakuzu.
    • In an effort to ruin Jiraiya's attempts to negotiate peace with the Fourth Raikage and Kumogakure, Danzo has Fū Yamanaka and Torune Aburame follow Jiraiya's group to the meeting ground, murder the Raikage's trusted bodyguard Cee, and try their damndest to kill him as well (or, failing that, turn him even further against Konoha).
    • The battle between Onoki and Rōshi vs. Suzumebachi and Edo-Tensei Mū sees multiple crossings of the MEH. First, Suzumebachi bringing along the Second Tsuchikage as a revenant is seen by Onoki as a disgusting violation (and even Mū himself thinks of the whole affair as "morally bankrupt", even if he doesn't agree with the direction Onoki has taken the village in). Then, when Rōshi is beaten down, he pleads with Son Goku, the 4-Tailed Beast, for more power, even using his name. Instead, the 4-Tails refuses and forces Rōshi into unconsciousness out of petty spite, laughing as he leaves his Host unable to help and stop what comes next. That "comes next" being Suzumebachi, after winning by exhausting Onoki into unconsciousness, coldly murdering him. This is also seen in-universe as a MEH crossing - the entirety of the spectating population of Iwa, even the plentiful people who'd been supporting Suzumebachi's bid for the Tsuchikage position, go mute with shocked horror and are soon baying for her blood and cheering on Kurotsuchi as she rushes Suzumebachi in a grief-stricken rage.
  • No Yay: The general reaction to the Ship Tease between Kabuto and Isaribi. The author stated it was unintentional, and that he has no plans to hook them up.
  • The Scrappy: Naruto's Genin Team became one after the Time Skip, mostly due how much Character Focus they got when they were introduced, which resulted in Shikamaru, Hinata, and especially Anko being Out of Focus. Hanabi doesn't get as much hate since she's a canon character, but while not bad characters per se, Kanji and Katsumi attracted quite some hatedom for being perceived as spotlight stealers.
  • Ships That Pass in the Night: As mentioned in the Ascended Extra section, Kurotsuchi supplants Temari as Shikamaru's main love interest.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Taki's Jonin Commander Zagi was once saved from death by Kakuzu, who later cashes in on this life-debt to make Zagi let him, Hidan, and Suien's team in to begin razing Takigakure, as well as making Zagi attack Shibuki. The whole time, Zagi is mentally pleading the heroes to kill him before he can cause too much trouble. Instead, they KO him and take him alive, meaning he has to live with what he's done. Furthermore, his daughter Asuna is completely crushed upon learning what her father has done; making it worse, it was - in a way - for her, as Zagi begged Kakuzu to save him all those years ago because he knew his wife was pregnant with Asuna, and he wanted to be able to make it home and be a father, especially since Asuna's mother doesn't survive birthing her.
    • Not only does the warmongering, anti-Konoha Suzumebachi defeat Onoki in an honor-duel for the position of Tsuchikage, she then coldly murders Onoki in full view of the shocked crowd, drawing a heartwrenching scream from Kurotsuchi, who immediately joins Kitsuchi in a raging charge against the usurper. It gets worse in the next chapter: although Kurotsuchi manages to defeat Suzumebachi and earn the title of Fourth Tsuchikage, Kitsuchi is killed by Kabuto. Now the girl has lost her father and her grandfather. To make matters worse, Kabuto has taken their corpses.
