• Moment of Awesome: Cross defying his father at the end of Truancy City and walking away from him instead of killing him, despite Rothenburg being personally responsible for almost every problem in Cross' life and killing someone Cross has just gotten to know right in front of his eyes. Then Rothenburg charges at him, Cross dodges, and Rothenburg falls to his death.
• The Woobie: Half of the damn cast.
  • Tack, who loses his sister in one of Zyid's attacks. When he's about to finally free the city, the Government steps in and crushes the entire Truancy, costing him almost everything.
  • Noni, who was permanently scarred by an Enforcer and forced to leave home.
  • Cross. He was horribly abused by his father and had a horrible school life, even by Education City standards. After his father's supposed death, he was taken to an orphanage—where he shared a room with Edward. Then he winds up taking over the Student Militia, and finds himself forced to lead another student rebellion after Iris chooses to put the militia members in a reeducation camps.
  • Umasi was torn away from his peaceful life and given a very cruel reality check after his brother chose to leave home and initiate a student rebellion.
  • Origins reveals that Zyid's school life before rebelling was pretty crappy too.
  • The freaking Mayor, who also loses everything about an eighth of the way into Truancy City and winds up committing suicide, with his last thoughts being prayers for his sons to get away from Iris safely.
