• Ass Pull: Loren now being willing to marry Pitt, even although she had rejected him at least twice. When he lampshades this, her only, bizarre explanation is that "he shouldn't trust women" or something similar.
• Narm: A Neo-Pagan female cult ritual, supposedly secret, hosted with neon lights and light cannons.
• The Scrappy: The book marks the first adventure of Summer and Dirk, and opinions about them were mainly negative. Dirk was called ineffectual and boring, while Summer was criticized as a dumb Damsel in Distress only good to make unfunny jokes. Later books fortunately moved the dial to Rescued from the Scrappy Heap.
• Squick: Summer and Dirk constantly making incestuous jokes, even pretending to be a couple to make a cover for themselves at one point.
• Values Resonance: The novel was written in 2003, but Epona's opinions would be quite relevant in The New '10s' culture wars, mostly as an example of feminism going very wrong.
