YMMV / Transformers G 1 Autobot Spike

• Fridge Brilliance: When Wheeljack started modifying Autobot X to hold someone's mind while their body was repaired, he intended for it to hold a Cybertronian's mind. He and Ratchet likely don't know a lot about human biology, meaning that Spike's brainwaves were likely incompatible with the Cybertronian body. No wonder he went crazy.
• Heartwarming Moments: The Autobots do everything they can to help Spike recover from the accident, from Ratchet and Prowl racing him to the hospital to using Autobot X to keep Spike alive until his body's healed. Plus, the entire time Ratchet's repairing Bumblebee, he keeps urging the medic to work faster, clearly wanting to be there for Spike (and being the first Autobot to go after him when he has his breakdown). Not to mention that the Autobots never give up on Spike.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: The episode ends with Bumblebee speculating what it would be like for the transferrence Spike went through to go the other way and transfer an Autobot's mind into a human body. The season 3 episode Only Human sees this awnsered. Further, nearly 24 years later in the Transformers: Animated episode Human Error sees another group of Autobots turned human, including that series version of Bumblebee himself.
