Ensemble Dark Horse: Out of the villains, many viewers like Psycho for being a sarcastic smartass who always guesses out of the blue how the Evil Plan of the week will fail.
Toxie is voiced by Rodger Bumpass, who most people who grew up in the 90's onward will most likely know as the voice of Squidward Tentacles.
One writer on the show was a then-unknown Chuck Lorre.
Shallow Parody: The sixth issue of the comic book by Marvel Comics featured an unflattering parody of Captain Planet and the Planeteers called Corporal Globe and the Globiteers. Corporal Globe and the Globiteers only superficially resemble the characters they're spoofing and the source material's notoriety for heavy-handedenvironmental messages is exaggerated by portraying the Globiteers as willing to pester people by interrupting their activities to give them long-winded lectures on the questionable ways their actions are harming the environment.
Toxic tropes for the modern video game:
Awesome Art: The reveal trailer showed pixel-based graphics with slick animation that's at least on par with Shredder's Revenge.
Awesome Music: Psychostick's rendition of the cartoon's theme song, as heard in the reveal trailer, manages to be even more awesome than the original, by virtue of their hardcore touch.
The Crusaders are all logically playable, but this game also gave that honor to the game's supporting cast, surprisingly enough:
Continuing the trend of formerly less-than-active damsels becoming playable in video games, Yvonne gets to fight alongside her boyfriend Toxie. With some Waif-Fu and her accordion, no less.
Mrs. Junko was even less expected as a playable character as she didn't seem like she could be fit enough to fight at all, yet is more than able to kick some Smogullan butt here.
The announcement that there would be cameo appearances of characters from other Troma properties came as a shock, as they never got family-friendly adaptations (Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D.'s promo trailer aside).
