• Hilarious in Hindsight: One of the observations Richard and Vanessa make is that the clothes look silly. Let's face it; their up-to-the-hilt 1970s fashions would look pretty silly to an actual twenty-first century citizen. This is almost certainly intentional, given that Newman was writing the story way after said 1970s clothes had long fallen out of fashion. Furthermore, while Jeperson and Vanessa might strike the modern reader as looking a bit silly, they are at least cheerfully of their time and aren't pretending to be accurate representatives of what the future will look like.
