YMMV / Tomohiro Ishii

Go To

  • Awesome Music: His "Stone Pitbull" theme is one of the absolute highlights of NJPW's 2016 theme music soundtrack release.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Has been this since 2012 due to the increasing popularity of his hard-hitting style catching on with both NJPW fans and management, the former at a faster rate.
    • Shinsuke Nakamura's departure in early 2016 really amped up Ishii's work rate. He's been having 4* and up quality matches in just about any singles match he's apart of and the fans are loving it.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • Scoring an upset victory over Hiroshi Tanahashi at the 23rd G1 Climax. Even more amazing that the crowd at Korakuen Hall were completely behind him over Tanahashi, who wrestled heelish in response.
    • His war with Katsuyori Shibata in the abovementioned tournament. They begin the match charging at each other and striking elbows. At one point, they traded chops and kicks with Shibata getting down on one knee daring Ishii to hit him with the former and Ishii doing the same by taking the latter. The match lasted under 15 minute but it's arguably the best match to go at that, so much that Dave Meltzer rated it five stars.
    • The absolute biggest one of his career was defeating IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega during the 28th G1 Climax in a 23-minute war in which both men busted each other's lips open and had the support of the crowd, Ishii being the greater of the two in both those aspects as well. What makes it better is that Omega was accusing Ishii of being a trickster and boasting that he wouldn't get baited into Ishii's "who can tank more damage" strong-style test-of-wills flavor of fighting, yet that, as well as Ishii's claimed intent to drag the Smug Super Omega back to reality by preempting his hopes to be the first undefeated G1 winner in history despite his injuries, is exactly what happened. Meltzer rated this match 5.5 stars.
