YMMV / Tom Swift (2022)

Go To

  • The Firefly Effect: One of the major contributors to the show's poor ratings was the fact that it premiered in the wake of The CW being sold and most of the network's other series being cancelled, leaving viewers with very little hope that this series would last more than one season even if it was good.
  • Friendly Fandoms: The series attracted a number of fans of Batwoman, due to both shows having a queer black lead.
  • Nightmare Fuel: "... And the Benefits of Bondage" sees Tom kidnapped by unknown forces and forced into a series of dangerous challenges that culminates in a Sadistic Choice between poisoning his friends and poisoning an unknown pregnant woman.
  • Uncertain Audience: It's a re-imagining of a classic book series that turns its protagonist from a straight white teenage boy to a gay black man. Hardcore fans of the books were not terribly enthusiastic about seeing the heavy changes, while a lot of casual viewers didn't watch because they assumed it wasn't a spin-off of Nancy Drew (2019).
