YMMV / Tom and Jerry: The Fast and the Furry

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment
    • For a character that only appears twice as a plot catalyst, there is never an explanation as to why the President of Hollywood dresses like a pharaoh, has god-like powers, and a Disintegrator Ray in his staff.
    • Debatably, that whole Statue of Liberty bit, but that may have been a deliberate nod to a gag done by the master himself, Mr. Tex Avery.
  • Catharsis Factor: J.W. Globwobbler receiving a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown from Tom and Jerry, and getting zapped to death by the President of Hollywood is definitely well-deserved and satisfying, since he is a Corrupt Corporate Executive who only cares about the ratings of his race, rather than the racers themselves.
  • Creepy Awesome: Gorthan.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Steed Dirkly's death due to its setup; basically, his car sinks and finds what he thinks is a mermaid... only to find out it's a monster. It then cuts to Biff and Buzz saying Dirkly's now being served up as dinner for the mermaid’s kids. Biff even goes so far as to say that the resulting meal sounds delicious.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: While Tom and Jerry did win the race, every other contestant is either dead or missing, and their antics will likely destroy the mansion they won, so they’ll be homeless again.
  • Funny Moments: Has its own page.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The movie focuses around an entire race, and the title itself is a spoof of The Fast and the Furious, but the usual Tom & Jerry antics intentionally make it far more wacky and crazy than any typical Hollywood film would actually be. Then the Fast series kept getting movies that got so absurd and over-the-top that it makes The Fast and the Furry look tame by comparison.
  • Nightmare Fuel: This movie suprisingly has a death count, which contains a few disturbing (at least in its own context) ones:
    • During the Amazon Rainforest part of the race, due to Tom trying to sabotage Jerry, Soccer Mom ends up losing her vehicle in quicksand, and after helping Jerry to find the right path to the race, she procedes to go into the rainforest alone, without noticing that a bunch of not-friendly looking bugs silhouettes appear behind her and also clouding the camera. It's never confirmed what happened to Soccer Mom, but the funeral music that sounds during her last scene, and also the swallowing sound heard when the scene goes black doesn't leave very happy expectations about the mother who probably left a few children orphan.
    • Steve Dirkley is baited by an apparently pretty mermaid, who turns out to be a monster and prepares to feed Steve to her babies. The next scene has Bill and Buzz gleefully confirming that Steve was eaten.
    • During the Australia to Borneo flying scene, Tom accidentally causes Granny and Squirty to fall to their death in Borneo (and even if the fall didn't kill them, their car that fell after them probably did it). We even see their souls ascending to heaven, but not before bursting the last balloon that was holding Tom's vehicle, causing him to fall onto the island from the sky too. Obviously Tom didn't die unlike them.
  • Signature Scene: Tom splitting Australia in half.
  • Too Cool to Live: Doctor Professor was shown to have the most technologically advanced car of all the contestants; it's unsurprising he's killed off before the race even began.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: This film is known for pushing the PG rating as far it could go due to the death of many characters and a few strip-off gags near the end of the film.
