YMMV / Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun

Go To

  • Adorkable: In the past, Hanako (then Amane) was this whenever he had a chance to talk about space. He still slips into this sometimes, usually when it involves Nene.
  • Awesome Art:
    • The manga's art is absolutely gorgeous, its unique art style being one of its major charms.
    • The anime doesn't disappoint, either. The detailed coloring of the scenes is literally a feast for the eyes. In fact, many viewers were drawn towards the anime because of its cute and unique art style.
  • Fan Nickname: Tsukasa was often referred to as Suskasa by the fandom to differentiate between him and the four-year-old Tsukasa stuck in the Red House. This term became obsolete after it was revealed they are the same person.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • "Moshi Moshi" is the standard expression Japanese people use when answering the phone. This is because youkai and ghosts apparently can only say Moshi once! So how does Hanako answer the phone on the Misaki Stairs? "Moshi Mosh!"
    • Hanako missing his seal in the shot of the seven mysteries, as well as having a kokujoudai instead of a hakujoudai, could be hinting at Tsukasa having some role as no. 7.
  • Hollywood Homely: Nene is often described as ugly and is frequently insulted over her "fat radish ankles", despite being drawn as cute as any other character. The Hell of Mirrors even says she is a "four" in terms of attractiveness, compared to Mitsuba who is an "eight".
  • Ho Yay:
    • Mitsuba and Kou have a lot of this.
      • In the manga, Kou blushes when telling Mitsuba he doesn't hate him.
      • Mitsuba describes Kou as something important to him.
      • The Picture Perfect arc draws a lot of parallels between Kou's relationship with Mitsuba and Nene's relationship with Hanako. Most importantly, Kou talks Mitsuba out of his wish, and Nene talks Hanako out of his.
      • In Picture Perfect, Kou attempts suicide to be with Mitsuba forever. Mitsuba saves him, despite having told Kou that he wants everyone around him to die.
      • In the Red House, Kou sees Mitsuba asking him to die and be with him forever. The Red House shows people their deepest wishes.
      • Little Tsukasa asks Kou if he likes Mitsuba.
    • Aoi and Nene are also a popular fan pairing.
  • The Un Twist: Chapter 95 presents the identity of Hanako's Yorishiro as The Reveal. However, Tsukasa has been wearing a Yorishiro seal the entire time and fits more bills the more is explained about Yorishiro's mechanics. The comments express that the bigger mystery is how nobody has questioned it until then, or if there's still more to it.
  • The Woobie:
    • Hanako. Especially in the Picture Perfect Arc. Or just about anytime his past or his murder of Tsukasa is brought up.
    • Poor, poor Mitsuba. Tsukasa really messed him up.
    • Nene has slowly become this, with her almost dying multiple times, limited life span, losing her best friend Aoi, and having Hanako disappear right in front of her, it really makes you want to give her a hug.
