• Aluminum Christmas Trees: Many people were turned off by the crucifixion scene, because the crucifixion was part of western history and had nothing to do with the Japanese, so the scene was obviously made up, right? Wrong.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The earliest cuts of the film left audiences numb and unable to discuss the themes that drove the creation of the movie. The film was edited and some scenes changed to avoid this in the final release, and the Director's Cut edited it even further.
