YMMV / TiMER

Go To

  • Alternate Aesop Interpretation: It feels like the movie is saying something, but it's a little hard to figure out what. Possibilities include:
  • Broken Aesop: The film attempts to assert that even in a world with TiMER technology, love is still very complex and people can succeed the old fashioned way. However TiMERs have an incredible 98% success rate that will spare an awful lot of people the heartache of unrequited love, just like Mikey, and relationships that are doomed to fail in the long run, much like Oona's parents. While the ending seems to try and affirm the presence of uncertainty in love and the human experience, the final scene indicates that there is indeed a mutual attraction between Dan and Oona.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Oona and Steph likely have an agreement that Oona will date men without TiMERs while Steph will only date men with them, in an attempt to avert what actually happened.
  • Funny Moments: Literally everything that comes out of Steph’s mouth, though her exchanges with Dutch at the nursing home are some of the most memorable
Dutch: In the service we have a name for people like that.
    Steph: Pricks?
    Dutch: Cocksuckers.
Steph: Even better. How’s it hanging, Dutch?
Dutch: Down to my knees, angel.
  • Memetic Mutation: The TiMERs themselves, which have spawned plots for stories, memes and fanfictions (mostly fanfictions) all over the internet.
  • Tear Jerker: Oona's and Mikey's final breakup. The scene just makes it so clear why they both wish it could have worked, and why it never will.
    Oona: I think I ruined it. Didn't I?
    Mikey: Maybe.
    Oona: You're being awfully stoic.
Mikey: Okay, I don't know what that means either. (voice cracking slightly) But you broke my fucking heart and I'm really trying to be a man about it, okay? So cut me some fucking slack here!
