YMMV / 311

Go To

  • Audience-Alienating Era: For some, the Bob Rock era. Seems to have ended with the release of Stereolithic.
  • Award Snub: The band has yet to be nominated for any major awards.
  • Covered Up: "Who's Got the Herb?" To a lesser extent, "Lovesong".
  • Critical Dissonance:
    • Many critics weren't very kind to Transistor, but the album is generally beloved by the fans.
    • The band's discography as a whole isn't popular with many critics. The band's (not-entirely-deserved, but not completely false either) reputation as Jerk Jock / Frat Bro fodder might have something to do with this. Despite this, they tend to have few problems drawing a crowd for live shows.
  • Fandom-Enraging Misconception: Do NOT suggest that 311 is affiliated with the KKK. This was a half-baked idea that their name meant 3 repititions of the 11th letter of the alphabet (K), and completely ignored that their music is heavily based on hip-hop, and SA is Hispanic (two things the KKK hates).
  • Fan Nickname: Their Self-Titled Album is often referred to as "The Blue Album".
  • Older Than They Think: The public was largely unaware of 311 until their 1995 mainstream breakthrough, despite having released two previous studio albums.
    • If that wasn't enough, 311 released two independent albums and two EPs prior to their first official studio album, which even more people are unaware of. Some songs from these releases would later be reworked for their first studio album.
  • Pop Culture Holiday: 311 Day, an extended concert performed on March 11th on even-numbered years since 2000.
  • Signature Song: "Down".
    • Possibly "Amber" for people who were introduced to the band later. Or maybe their cover of "Lovesong."
    • "Beautiful Disaster" nowadays, thanks to Guitar Hero
  • Tear Jerker: "Tranquility"
  • Vindicated by History: The initial reaction to Transistor was lukewarm to negative, and was a Contested Sequel to the self-titled album. These days, however, many see it as 311's best album.
